Location: Modesto, CA
Pay Range: $17.00 – $17.50 per hour (DOE)
Schedule: Part-Time
Setting: Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF)

Position Summary

Garden City Healthcare Center is seeking a reliable and experienced Part-Time Cook to support our dietary services department. This position is responsible for preparing nutritious, appetizing meals for residents while maintaining a safe, clean, and sanitary kitchen environment in compliance with all health and safety regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain kitchen and cooking areas in a safe, orderly, clean, and sanitary condition

  • Prepare and cook a variety of foods in large quantities

  • Follow approved menus, recipes, and portion control guidelines

  • Accurately prepare special and therapeutic diets

  • Prepare pureed foods and modified textures as required

  • Record and monitor food temperatures for all meals

  • Maintain proper sanitizer (quaternary solution) levels in buckets

  • Assist with serving meals and setting up serving carts

  • Clean cooking areas, equipment, and serving carts after meals

  • Ensure cleaning schedules are followed consistently

  • Present food in an appealing and resident-friendly manner

  • Report resident care concerns or potential issues to the Administrator and/or Director of Nursing

  • Participate in orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff

  • Work cooperatively with all departments

  • Supervise dietary staff in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor, as needed

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • May have supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Minimum one (1) year of cooking experience in a hospital or long-term care facility preferred

Language Skills

  • Ability to read technical procedures and follow recipes

  • Ability to communicate effectively with managers and coworkers

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to apply basic math concepts including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems

  • Ability to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule-based instructions

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations

  • Must obtain and maintain a ServSafe Certificate

  • Knowledge and experience with PointClickCare (PCC) preferred

  • Must remain in good standing with the Department of Public Health

Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing and walking

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Frequent reaching, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing, tasting, and smelling

  • Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling

  • Visual abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception

  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions

  • Kitchen and food service environment

  • Noise level typically low to moderate
