Dietary Manager - Full Time
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for preparing and distributing food items to patient care units. Assists with catered events and non-patient care functions as required. Oversees the daily operation of food services including staffing and the ordering, storage, inventory, preparation and distribution of food. Accountable for maintaining a sanitary and safe work environment in accordance with state, federal and organizational policies. Manages the dietary service within budgetary parameters.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be able to read and write English required.
Minimum Work Experience
- Ability to communicate with employees, physicians, patients and administrative staff in a courteous and professional manner.
- Quantity food preparation and food service experience.
- Interest in public health and wellbeing.
- Ability to hire, train, supervises, and evaluates staff.
- Fair, supportive and firm decision-making skills.
- Knowledge of principles of sanitation and environmental safety.
- Retail management/purchasing and inventory experience.
- Ability to prepare and manage a budget.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Financial Responsibilities
- Develops budget for the department and allocates funds within budget limits to accomplish objectives.
- Completes yearly/ monthly departmental budget requirements as determined by the CVH Finance Department.
- Monitors variance against budget on an ongoing basis.
- Ensures payroll functions are completed in a timely manner.
Communication
- Create a workplace environment where staff is working toward the same essential goals and strategies; provide 2-way communication where ideas can be shared in a non-punitive environment.
- Provide effective communication process between administration, management, and staff i.e. staff meetings, communication books, communication boards.
- Participates in hospital /medical staff committee meetings, and Safety Huddles as required.
- Employee performance appraisals are completed thoroughly and submitted on time.
- Develops performance goals/objectives with each staff member to promote maximum productivity, proficiency, and professional growth, as evidenced by written goals on performance appraisals.
Leadership
- Provides leadership and guidance to other leaders and staff in goal setting, problem solving, resource management, and outcome achievement.
- Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy work environment by modeling desired behaviors and encouraging those in others.

Staff
- Ensure that new employees and other designated individuals have attended general hospital orientation as required.
- Ensure staff members have completed and/ or maintained competencies and any licensing/ certification as designated by their job description.
- Evaluations are completed within Human Resource policy guidelines.
- Staff counseling, complete with opportunities for improvement, are done on a timely basis and in a professional manner.
- Ensure all staff understands the culture and history of our organization as well as the strategic goals for the future.
Food Production
- Collaborate with the Registered Dietitian to plan menus to meet the nutritional requirements and the clinical needs of patients that are in accordance with the diet order.
- Receive and store foodstuffs to maintain the highest degree of purity and freshness.
- Ensure that meals are nutritious, varied, attractive, and prepared under the highest standards of sanitation and safety.
- Develop recipes and portion control standards to meet all therapeutic diets.
- Ensure that needs are met for patients requiring special diets.
- Put in place changes to food production and/or delivery systems.
- Plan and execute special meal functions.
- Make sure that food service areas are properly equipped, kept in good working order and meet strict occupational health and safety standards.
- Accountable for sanitation and safety inspections.
Bistro / Boutique
- Select merchandise and services that meet the needs of customers. Order merchandise, determine prices, and monitor stock levels.
- Ensure that hours of operation maximize profitability.
- Implement appropriate buying plans that result in profitable sales and meet the needs of the Medical Center.
- Maintain the physical environment of the facility; effectively display merchandise.
- Supervise the business aspect of the shop: establish policies regarding cash control prepare bank deposits, maintain inventory control, and prepare monthly sales reports.
- Create and implement merchandising plans, sales and promotions. Monitor flow of merchandise and effectively rotate stock.
- Implement performance improvement activities in the shop.
- Maintain a high level of customer service.
- Implement and oversee security procedures for stock and cash in the store.
