Surgery Anesthesia Technician - Full Time
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for performing a variety of tasks to support anesthesiologists and surgical staff under the supervision of the Surgical Services Manager
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education
- Graduate from high school preferred
Certificate Required
- BLS required
Minimum Work Experience
- Work related experience
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Must show initiative, maturity, and effectiveness in dealing with people
- Well-groomed in appearance
- Appreciation of and desire to be part of a healthcare team
POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Equipment/Area
- Maintains a smooth flow of anesthetic cases, in a timely manner, by assisting the anesthesiologist before, during, and after induction.
- Has a working knowledge of anesthetic drugs and agents.
- Thoroughly cleans all surfaces of OR furniture, lights, anesthesia cables, shelves and carts at least daily. Removes used supplies and equipment between cases.
- Is able to pre-test the anesthesia machines and reports deficiency to appropriate manufacturer representative.
- Recognizes the need for, and adheres to, guidelines for drugs covered by Harris Narcotic Act.
- Is able to prepare appropriate equipment necessary for arterial lines, Swan-Ganz, blood administration, and central line insertion.
- Assists with all turn overs
- Responsible for ordering and stocking anesthesia supplies.
Transporting Activities
- Performs a variety of assisting and transporting activities.
- Assists with lifting, moving, and positioning patients at the nurse's request.
- Transports as needed: patients, specimens, equipment and supplies.
- Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
- Demonstrates willingness to identify and/or assume activities relative to the developmental needs of the department
- Demonstrates dependability/flexibility in meeting scheduling needs of the department and hospital.
- Accepts assignment as preceptor for new staff.
- Completes work assignments on time/readily accepts assignments as observed by manager.
- Reports to work on time and is at work as scheduled, as observed by manager
