Jennings Center for Older Adults is seeking an experienced, compassionate, and dynamic Director of Nursing (DON) to provide leadership and oversight for our Nursing Department. This key leadership role assists the Chief of Nursing in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person-centered care while fostering clinical excellence, staff development, regulatory compliance, and resident satisfaction. Position Summary
The Director of Nursing assists the Chief of Nursing in maintaining 24-hour administrative responsibility, accountability, and oversight of nursing operations, education, and clinical services. The DON works collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to promote quality outcomes, support staff development, ensure regulatory compliance, and advance Jennings' person-centered care philosophy.Â
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Operations
- Assist with the oversight of nursing services and neighborhood staff.
- Ensure quality resident care and exceptional customer service.
- Provide staff coaching, mentorship, performance management, and professional development.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, retention, and succession planning efforts.
- Serve as a liaison among residents, families, physicians, and staff.
- Investigate resident, family, and staff concerns and provide timely resolution.
- Support staffing effectiveness, scheduling, and workforce planning.
- Assume Acting Director of Nursing responsibilities when assigned.Â
Clinical Excellence & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure care is delivered in accordance with federal, state, and organizational standards.
- Monitor clinical outcomes, documentation, care plans, and quality indicators.
- Investigate incidents and accidents and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
- Participate in surveys and lead corrective action plans when needed.
- Maintain knowledge of current healthcare regulations and long-term care best practices.Â
Quality Improvement
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
- Review audits, reports, and performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Promote continuous improvement, resident satisfaction, and operational efficiency.
- Support positive census growth and resident-centered outcomes.Â
Education & Staff Development
- Identify educational opportunities and training needs for nursing staff.
- Assist with regulatory-required education programs and competency validation.
- Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for nursing professionals.
- Foster a culture of learning, teamwork, and professional growth.Â
Qualifications
Required
- Current Ohio RN license in good standing.
- Long-term care experience.
- Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, management, and staff development experience.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Commitment to person-centered care and resident choice.Â
Preferred
- Experience with quality improvement programs, regulatory surveys, and staff education.
- Experience leading interdisciplinary teams in a senior living or long-term care environment.Â
