Description of Work

Salary Range: $43,267.00 - $75,718.00

This position is located at Gaston Correctional Center located in Dallas, NC (Gaston County). Gaston Correctional Center is a Minimum Custody Facility that houses Male Offenders.

Positions in this class direct programs for the rehabilitation of inmates in the prison system. Positions at this level are responsible for administering programs for inmates at the larger prison facilities, or facilities having broader scope and complexity of programming; or positions function as assistants to the Programs Director II in larger institutions, offering a variety of program services. Positions in this class may also be responsible for directing a major program in a region or statewide basis. The primary programs areas are inmate classification; correctional programs including work release, incentive wage, study release, educational/vocational, volunteer programs, religion, cognitive-based interventions, and recreation; and correctional counseling. Work involves supervision of subordinate personnel who are responsible for the implementation, development, and maintenance of the programs on a daily basis. Positions are responsible for coordinating programs with custody and other facility staff.

Key Duties Include:
-Supervise programs and clerical staff, including completion of monthly performance logs, intermediate reviews, and final evaluations.
-Manage and coordinate facility rehabilitative programs to ensure effective implementation and operations
-Monitor all rehabilitative programs to ensure quality, consistency, and adherence to established standards
-Serve on a regional audit team to conduct annual facility audits and ensure Rehabilitative Program Compliance
-Act as reviewing authority for the facility classification process
-Ensure staff adherence to NCDAC classification policies and procedures
-Evaluate subordinate staff performance to assess effectiveness in providing supportive counseling services
-Respond to inquiries from families and incarcerated individuals regarding behavior, program participation, and related concerns

About The Division of Institutions:

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
