Job Information 

Title:  Dental Practice Lead  

Department: Patient Services  
Status: Hourly

Reports To: Supervising Dentist/Dental Operations Manager (Varies by site) 

Direct Reports: None 

 Summary of Position:

Under the direct supervision of the Supervising Dentist, this position is responsible for the communications and administering of timely and accurate recording of patient demographics, insurance information, patient charges and payments. Through their leadership they will assist with cross training required in multiple administrative support functions including dental records, scanning, PHI request and messaging to both clinical and non-clinical staff.  

 

Education: High School Diploma or GED certificate required. 

Experience Required: One year of clerical experience in dental/medical office setting required. Other related experience may be considered in lieu of dental office experience. 

Additional Skills Suggested: Knowledge of dental office software for the following: updating patient demographic information, posting charges and copays. Requires excellent verbal communication skills. Must be able to work with changing priorities. Requires excellent organizational, problem solving and critical thinking skills. Must be able to interact with individuals of all cultures and levels of authority. Requires the ability to maintain confidentiality. Must be able to function as part of a team. Must possess initiative. Basic dental terminology required, knowledge can be obtained through formal classes or work experience.

Key Responsibilities:  

  1. Ensure day-to-day business is handled according to office and dental guidelines. 
  2. Must be able to interact with individuals of all cultures and levels of authority by answering phones or face-to-face greeting. 
  3. Must be able to schedule patient appointment under guidelines of administration 
  4. Must be able to problem solve and have critical thinking skills 
  5. Must be able to explain policy and procedures to patients and staff 
  6. Must be able to interview patient to obtain personal and financial information 
  7. Must be able to understand and maintain patient confidentiality 
  8. Utilize Electronic Dental Record (EDR)System: 
    • Schedule patient appointments 
    • Update patient demographics & Insurance 
    • Post copays 
    • Query for patient financial records 

    9. Utilize EDR System: 

    • Update patient records  
    • Scan documents into patient charts in a timely manner 
    • Query patient information 
    • Extract Dental records for PHI request 
    • Patient Message provider/staff 

    10. Must be able to perform accurate cash management /transaction procedures 

    11. Perform other duties as assigned
