Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled Metrology Technician to join our Quality team. In this role, you will perform dimensional and visual inspections of automotive components using precision metrology equipment. You will ensure product compliance with engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, customer specifications, and IATF 16949 standards, supporting new product launches (PPAP) and ongoing production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Dimensional & Visual Inspection: Perform first-piece, in‑process, and final inspections using CMM, height gauges, calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and optical comparators.

  • Blueprint & GD&T Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints and GD&T symbols to determine measurement methods and acceptance criteria.

  • Metrology & CMM Support: Operate CMM equipment (Zeiss, Hexagon, Mitutoyo, etc.), load programs, verify alignments, and ensure accurate readings.

  • Documentation & PPAP: Complete dimensional reports, capability studies (Cp/Cpk), and non‑conformance reports. Support PPAP documentation (ISIR, MSA/Gauge R&R).

  • Calibration & Maintenance: Conduct routine calibration checks, maintain inspection equipment, and update calibration records per IATF 16949.

  • Production Support: Assist with root cause analysis (5‑Why, Fishbone) for non-conformances, verify corrective actions, and maintain 5S standards in inspection areas.

Requirements (What You Need to Succeed)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (Technical trade certificate or Associate degree preferred).

  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in automotive manufacturing inspection or metrology.

  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of GD&T and blueprint reading.

  • Equipment Mastery: Hands-on experience with CMM (operator level minimum), height gauges, micrometers, calipers, and bore gauges.

  • Quality Standards: Familiarity with IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP, and SPC fundamentals.

  • Core Competencies: High attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ability to perform Gauge R&R (MSA) studies.

Preferred Qualifications (A Plus):

  • Experience with metal-mechanic automotive parts (stamping, welding, machining).

  • CMM programming knowledge (PC-DMIS, Calypso, MCOSMOS).

  • Experience with portable CMM arms (FARO, Hexagon) or laser scanning.

  • Familiarity with OEM customer-specific requirements (GM, Ford, Stellantis, Toyota, etc.).

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Split time between the quality lab and the manufacturing floor (exposure to stamping presses, welding cells, etc.).

  • Ability to stand/walk on the shop floor and lift up to 35 lbs occasionally.

  • Occasional travel to customers/suppliers (10–20%).
