Salary Range:

Reporting to the Senior Manger, Partnerships and Innovations, the Economic Development Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the implementation of the organization's economic development strategy. This position is responsible for assisting in the attraction, retention, and expansion of businesses, fostering entrepreneurship, and promoting the overall economic growth of Vernon.  The Coordinator will work collaboratively with businesses, community organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders to achieve economic development goals.

Duties Include:

  • Provide support and resources to existing businesses, including information on funding opportunities, regulatory requirements, and business development services
  • Assist in the development and implementation of business retention and expansion programs.
  • Conduct business outreach and surveys to identify needs and opportunities.
  • Maintain a database of local businesses and resources.
  • Assist in the development of marketing materials and promotional campaigns to attract new businesses and investment.
  • Respond to inquiries from potential investors and businesses.
  • Organize and participate in community meetings, trade shows, conferences, and other events to promote Vernon.
  • Conduct research and analysis on economic trends, industry sectors, and demographic data.
  • Prepare correspondence, reports and presentations on economic development data and findings.
  • Maintain and update economic development data and information.
  • Build and maintain relationships with businesses, community organizations, Indigenous communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Protects and improves the City’s image by resolving complaints and promoting good public relations.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of economic development projects, including monitoring project process, timelines, preparing reports and managing project budgets.
  • Assist with grant writing, and grant management.
  • Provide administrative support to the Economic Development Department, including maintaining files and records.
  • Manage website content related to economic development.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • All persons employed by the City of Vernon will be required to assist the City in providing emergency services.  Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Diploma in business administration, economics, urban planning, or a related field experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in economic development, planning, business development, or a related field.
  • Valid BC Drivers’ License Class 5.
  • An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.

  • Knowledge of economic development principles and practices.
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong program development and project management skills.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven public relations or marketing skills.
  • Strong community/client focus and excellent interpersonal abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Self-disciplined, dependable, and follows through to implementation.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite and content management software
  • Ability to collect and interpret data from a variety of sources.
  • Ability to attend events that may fall outside of normal hours.
