Job Description:

Operations Support Engineer

Rubicon is seeking an Operations Support Engineer supporting the Polyurethanes Division located in Geismar. This position will report to the Operations Support Team Leader.

Job Scope

The Operations Support Engineer provides technical expertise to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of chemical manufacturing processes.

In summary, as the Operation Support Engineer, you will:  

Troubleshoot problems with chemical manufacturing processes in their assigned areas.  Support unit turnarounds and commission process improvements.  Evaluate process equipment and processes to identify ways to optimize performance and assure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.  Monitor performance of processes throughout reaction and purification steps to determine interaction of process variables such as temperature, pressure, residence time, composition.  Design replacement equipment and plan layout of new equipment.  Design monitoring and control systems improvements based on data trending and analysis. 

 
Minimum Qualifications

  • The position requires a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. 
  • 0-4+ years experience in process engineering
  • Unrestricted right to work in the United States

Skills and knowledge

  • Knowledge of chemical composition and properties of the chemicals used and an understanding of chemical reactions they undergo,
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and costs,
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the processing of chemicals from raw materials to final products
  • an awareness of all assigned processes, including auxiliary units
  • knowledge of geometry, calculus, probability, statistics and their applications,
  • trained in or capable of learning Aspen simulation software, advanced excel techniques, regression analysis, and developing and understanding PFD’s and P&ID’s
