Endoscopy Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Finger Lakes Health
Department: Endoscopy / Surgical Services/Finger Lakes Surgery Center

Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and highly skilled Endoscopy Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Endoscopy team. Under the supervision of the Nursing Supervisor and Surgical Services RN Manager, the Endoscopy RN provides safe, high-quality, patient-centered nursing care throughout the endoscopy continuum.

The RN is responsible for promoting patient comfort, safety, dignity, and optimal clinical outcomes while collaborating closely with physicians, anesthesia providers, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced acute-care RN who enjoys a fast-paced procedural environment and is committed to delivering exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients before, during, and after endoscopic procedures.
  • Assess patient needs and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care.
  • Monitor patients closely for changes in condition and respond appropriately to clinical needs.
  • Promote patient safety, comfort, dignity, and well-being throughout the procedure.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding procedures, expectations, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and comply with applicable privacy standards.
  • Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia providers, nurses, technicians, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, hospital policies, and professional nursing standards.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient status and emergency situations.
  • Maintain competency through continuing education, departmental training, in-service programs, and professional development.
  • Follow Joint Commission, regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and effective communication with patients, families, coworkers, providers, and the public.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment.
  • Participate in occasional on-call coverage as required.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum of 1 year of acute-care nursing experience.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications are required through the RQI system during clinical orientation.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
  • Strong clinical judgment, organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
  • Commitment to patient safety, quality care, and teamwork.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • One year of critical-care experience.
  • Endoscopy experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • SGNA certification.

Required Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS and ACLS: Required through the RQI system during clinical orientation.
  • Coronary Care: Must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Moderate Sedation Competency: Must be obtained within 6 months of placement into the position.
  • SGNA Certification: Recommended within 2 years.

Patient Population

The Endoscopy RN must possess the knowledge and clinical skills necessary to care for patients across the lifespan, including:

  • Pediatric
  • Adolescent
  • Adult
  • Geriatric

The RN must be able to assess patient-specific needs and provide care appropriate to the patient's age, developmental stage, and clinical condition.
