Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Geneva General Hospital & Finger Lakes Surgery Center (FLSC)
Schedule
- 4 days per week, 9-hour shifts with one weekday off (typically the post-call day).
- Shift start times vary between 6:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., depending on assignment.
- Must be able to travel between Geneva General Hospital (GGH) and Finger Lakes Surgery Center (FLSC), occasionally working at both locations in the same day.
Call Requirements
- One weekday of call per week (Monday–Thursday), beginning at the end of the scheduled shift until 7:00 a.m. the following morning.
- One full weekend of call approximately every 5–6 weeks, from Friday evening through Monday at 7:00 a.m.
- Must be able to report to the hospital within 45 minutes when on call.
Flex Shift
Operating Room RNs can expect one designated flex shift each week, during which they may be required to remain beyond their scheduled shift to complete surgical procedures. The flex RN is not on call and is not required to return to the hospital after leaving campus.

Finger Lakes Health is seeking a compassionate and skilled Operating Room Registered Nurse to provide exceptional perioperative nursing care in a fast-paced surgical environment. As an OR RN, you'll work collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, high-quality patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures.

Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care throughout the perioperative continuum, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases.
- Assess patients' physical and psychosocial needs and develop individualized plans of care.
- Prepare the operating room, equipment, instruments, and supplies for surgical procedures.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team while maintaining a safe and sterile environment.
- Monitor patient status during procedures and respond appropriately to changes in condition.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated patient care.
- Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures and post-operative expectations.
- Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.
- Adhere to infection prevention practices, patient safety initiatives, and Joint Commission standards.
- Participate in continuing education, departmental training, and professional development activities.
Qualifications
Required
- Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Current New York State Registered Nurse license.
- One year of acute care nursing experience.
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (obtained through the RQI system during clinical orientation).
- Coronary Care certification within six months of hire.
- Strong clinical judgment and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced surgical environment.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Preferred
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).
- One year of critical care and/or operating room experience.
- Scrub nurse experience.
- Knowledge of AORN standards.
- CNOR certification (or willingness to obtain within two years).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
