RN – Pre/Post/PACU

Geneva General Hospital & Finger Lakes Surgery Center

Schedule

  • Four 9-hour shifts per week with one weekday off (typically the post-call day)
  • Shift start times vary between 6:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.
  • Travel between Geneva General Hospital and Finger Lakes Surgery Center is required, occasionally on the same day
  • Occasional weekday call rotation

Position Summary

Join our Surgical Services team as a Pre/Post/PACU Registered Nurse, where you'll provide exceptional care to patients before and after surgical and procedural interventions. In this role, you'll assess, monitor, educate, and support patients throughout their surgical experience while working collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, compassionate, high-quality care.

This position offers the opportunity to develop advanced skills in perioperative nursing, including cardiac monitoring, recovery of anesthesia patients, and management of patients requiring specialized post-procedure care.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for pre-operative and post-anesthesia patients.
  • Monitor patients throughout recovery, recognizing and responding to changes in condition.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the interdisciplinary team to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and interventions safely and in accordance with established standards.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding procedures, recovery, discharge instructions, medications, and follow-up care.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Promote patient safety by adhering to infection prevention, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain required clinical competencies.
  • Prepare patients and equipment for procedures while anticipating procedural and recovery needs.
  • Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care that supports a healing environment.

Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current New York State RN license (or NYS Limited Permit)
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications obtained through the RQI system during orientation
  • Basic Coronary Care certification within 6 months of hire
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • One year of Critical Care experience
  • Experience with electronic medical records and Microsoft Office
  • CAPA or CPAN certification within two years

Schedule

  • Four 9-hour shifts per week with one weekday off
  • Shift start times vary between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
  • Required travel between Geneva General Hospital (GGH) and Finger Lakes Surgery Center (FLSC) based on patient volume

Call Requirements

  • 3–4 weekday call shifts per month, from the end of the scheduled shift until 7:00 a.m. the following morning
  • One full weekend of call every 6–7 weeks, from Friday evening through Monday at 7:00 a.m.
  • Must be able to respond within 60 minutes when on call

Flex Shift

  • One weekly flex shift, separate from the call schedule
  • If flexed off, there is no requirement to return later that day

  • Pre-Operative (Pre-Op)
  • Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU – Phase I)
