Description

 Position Summary

The Athletic Trainer (AT) provides Athletic Training Services to student athletes in accordance with the state of Delaware’s athletic training practices.  The Athletic Trainer will  Supervise the prevention, care, treatment, and recovery of injuries to high school student-athletes. The AT will also provide administration, supervision and maintenance of the athletic training facility, equipment, supplies and documentation. The AT also will also work closely to the Director of Athletics to provide assistance where needed.

Responsibilities:


Athletic Trainer (Primary Position)


  • Implement and supervise the prevention and treatment programs of athletic injuries to high school student-athletes at DCS.
  • Evaluate and treat reported athletic injuries or illness of high school student-athletes (as well as visiting team student-athletes)
  • Provide and supervise emergency treatment of injuries or illness to high school student-athletes on school grounds (as well as visiting teams student-athletes), including the use of emergency equipment and supplies and the removal from the playing field/court.
  • Determine if a student-athlete is capable of continued participation in a competition or practice if they sustain an injury or illness or is otherwise unable to safely continue such participation.
  • Communicate injury and illness status to the student-athlete's head coach or designee.
  • Implement and supervise the reconditioning and treatment programs (protocols) for injured Delmarva Christian student-athletes.
  • Communicate with the student-athlete's parents/guardians when injuries/illness has occurred requiring referral to a physician.
  • Apply protective or injury prevention devices, such as tape, wraps, pads, braces or other equipment for athletic participation.
  • Order athletic training supplies through the purchase order system.
  • Stock and maintain inventory for team travel kits including tape, forms, bandages, pre-wrap, etc.
  • Maintain the upkeep and cleanliness of the Athletic training room as well as the Fitness Center.
  • Maintain records of all athletic injuries, to include coaches concussion certification and CPR records.
  • Stay informed on all current DIAA medical regulations.
  • Maintain all certifications to be a certified athletic trainer.
  • Keep coaches up to date on concussion protocols, Emergency Action Plans, and proper procedures concerning athlete safety.


Athletics’ Assistant 

  • Assist the Director of Athletics with the daily operations of the athletic department. 
  • Provide administrative support, including maintaining schedules, rosters, and athletic records. 
  • Help coordinate game-day operations, including setup, cleanup, and event logistics. 
  • Communicate with coaches, student-athletes, parents, officials, and visiting schools as directed. 
  • Assist with scheduling athletic contests, transportation, and facility usage. 
  • Support the organization and distribution of athletic uniforms, equipment, and supplies. 
  • Help ensure athletic facilities are prepared, safe, and ready for practices and competitions.

Physical Activities & Demands

  • Regularly moving objects weighing 20-50 lbs, such      as people, equipment, supplies, and furniture. Some roles require      occasional heavy lifting of up to or exceeding 200 lbs with or without assistance. 
  • Sustained periods of standing and walking across campus. 
  • Working in all weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold for athletic games
