Digital Engineering / CAD Engineer – Powertrain Manufacturing

Schedule: Must be available for occasional weekends, holidays, and plant shutdowns

Position Summary

K&K is seeking an experienced Digital Engineering / CAD Engineer to support Powertrain Production Engineering projects within a high-volume manufacturing environment.

This position combines 2D/3D CAD expertise, manufacturing engineering, digital engineering, and project coordination. The engineer will support production preparation activities for internal combustion engines, hybrid transmissions, axles, and other powertrain components.

The ideal candidate has strong, recent hands-on experience with Autodesk AutoCAD Architecture, Inventor, Navisworks, Vault, Revit, and/or ReCap and understands how CAD and digital engineering tools are used to support manufacturing equipment, production lines, facility layouts, and process planning.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Engineering & CAD

  • Create and revise product operation drawings using AutoCAD.

  • Develop and maintain production line layouts in coordination with Production and Production Engineering teams.

  • Create detailed equipment and utility installation drawings.

  • Develop, review, and interpret 2D and 3D product, process, equipment, and facility models.

  • Perform 3D model comparisons and overlays using Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, or similar 3D software.

  • Manage engineering drawings, models, and associated data using Autodesk Vault.

  • Support digital engineering activities from initial concept and feasibility through installation and manufacturing validation.

3D Modeling & Visualization

  • Create and evaluate building, equipment, and production-line models using Navisworks, Revit, Inventor, and related software.

  • Perform digital project studies to identify potential equipment, facility, or installation conflicts.

  • Utilize 3D models to improve equipment and process planning accuracy.

  • Support visualization and validation of manufacturing concepts prior to field implementation.

Point Cloud & Facility Data

  • Support point-cloud scanning and data collection within manufacturing facilities.

  • Evaluate scan data for project studies, equipment installations, and production-line modifications.

  • Incorporate existing facility conditions into engineering layouts and 3D models.

  • Utilize ReCap and related tools to support point-cloud data analysis.

Manufacturing & Production Engineering

  • Support production preparation for powertrain manufacturing projects.

  • Assist with production line simulations to validate capacity and identify opportunities for process improvement.

  • Support manufacturing equipment and process planning activities.

  • Work directly with Production Engineering and manufacturing teams to validate equipment and process requirements.

  • Help improve manufacturing cost, planning accuracy, and production preparation lead time.

Project Coordination

  • Plan, coordinate, track, and report engineering project activities.

  • Manage multiple priorities and project deadlines.

  • Coordinate with Production Engineering, Production, equipment suppliers, and other project stakeholders.

  • Prepare project reports, presentations, schedules, and technical documentation.

  • Support onsite project activities and equipment/process validation.

Required Qualifications

  • Recent hands-on experience working with 2D and 3D CAD tools.

  • Experience creating and interpreting:

    • Product drawings and models

    • Process drawings and models

    • Equipment drawings and models

    • Manufacturing layouts

  • Intermediate to advanced experience with Autodesk CAD and digital engineering applications.

  • Experience with project planning, coordination, time management, and reporting.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Project.

Autodesk Experience

Strong experience with several of the following is highly desired:

  • AutoCAD Architecture

  • Inventor Professional

  • Navisworks

  • Vault / Vault Data Structure

  • Revit

  • ReCap

Education / Experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

Candidates may also be considered with:

  • Technical degree in CAE, CAD, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline

OR

  • 3+ years of relevant CAE/CAD experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Automotive manufacturing experience.

  • Powertrain assembly or machining experience.

  • High-volume automated manufacturing experience.

  • Manufacturing equipment and process specification experience.

  • CATIA or Creo experience.

  • Point-cloud scanning and data utilization experience.

  • Experience supporting production-line layouts, equipment installations, or manufacturing facility modifications.

Travel & Work Requirements

  • Position is 100% onsite in Georgetown, Kentucky.

  • Local candidates are strongly preferred.

  • Approximately 15% domestic travel to other manufacturing locations.

  • Travel may begin shortly after starting the assignment.

  • Must be able to travel internationally if future project needs require it.

  • Approximately 15% overtime, including occasional weekends, holidays, and plant shutdowns.

Candidates may also be asked to complete an onsite CAD/technical skills assessment.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on CAD/Digital Engineering professional with manufacturing experience who is equally comfortable working with 2D production layouts, complex 3D models, equipment drawings, point-cloud data, and manufacturing engineers on the plant floor.
