Position Purpose

The Grocery Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the Grocery Department, including sales performance, merchandising, inventory management, labor control, food safety, and customer service. This position leads and develops department associates while ensuring a well-stocked, clean, safe, and inviting shopping experience for customers.

Key Responsibilities Department Leadership
  • Lead, coach, and develop Grocery Department associates.
  • Create a positive and productive work environment focused on teamwork and customer service.
  • Schedule, train, and evaluate department associates.
  • Delegate responsibilities and ensure operational standards are consistently maintained.
  • Promote associate engagement, accountability, and development.
Customer Service
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Address customer questions, concerns, and special requests promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain a customer-focused culture throughout the department.
  • Monitor service levels and implement improvements as needed.
Sales & Merchandising
  • Drive department sales through effective merchandising and execution of promotional programs.
  • Ensure shelves, displays, and promotional areas are properly stocked and merchandised.
  • Maintain department standards for presentation, pricing accuracy, and product availability.
  • Support seasonal and special merchandising initiatives.
Inventory & Shrink Control
  • Monitor inventory levels to maintain in-stock conditions while minimizing excess inventory.
  • Oversee ordering and replenishment processes.
  • Manage department shrink through proper rotation, inventory controls, and operational best practices.
  • Review sales and inventory reports to identify opportunities for improvement.
Operational Excellence
  • Ensure daily department operations are executed according to company standards.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe sales floor and backroom conditions.
  • Monitor product rotation and code date compliance.
  • Support ad execution, display compliance, and operational initiatives.
Compliance & Safety
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety regulations, and operational procedures.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for associates and customers.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and address identified concerns promptly.
  • Follow all applicable health, sanitation, and regulatory requirements.
Financial Accountability
  • Manage department labor expenses and productivity.
  • Support achievement of sales, shrink, and profitability goals.
  • Analyze department performance reports and implement action plans when necessary.
  • Assist in developing strategies to improve overall department results.
