The primary purpose and function of the Relief Veterinarian is to provide preventative care, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries of Pets. Responsibilities include ensuring the safety of pets, clients, and associates by using safe restraining techniques and maintaining clean treatment areas; obtaining relevant client and pet information and maintaining medical records; educating clients about preventative care, pet health needs, diagnoses, treatments, and hospital services; providing professional, efficient, and exceptional service including prescribing and administering preventative care and treating diseases and injuries; communicating diagnosis and treatment plans effectively to the veterinary team and clients; ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws including controlled substance inventory; following state guidelines regarding duties of veterinary assistants and technicians; and other assigned duties. The role requires surgical skills, problem-solving, client service, communication, organizational ability, and a compassionate commitment to pet care. Special working conditions include the ability to work more than 40 hours per week including weekends and evenings, exposure to pets that may bite or scratch, and occasional exposure to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and controlled substances. The candidate must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent, a license in good standing with the state veterinary board, and a DEA license. The position requires physical abilities such as standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
