Position: Law Clerk (Full-Time, Exempt)

Location: Adams County Courthouse

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00AM to 4:30PM (flexibility required)

About the Role:

The Adams County Court of Common Pleas is seeking a dedicated Law Clerk to provide vital legal research, analysis, and administrative support to the Judge and Court operations. This role plays a key part in ensuring the efficient and effective administration of justice through timely and accurate legal assistance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct advanced legal research using online engines and Law Library resources.
  • Analyze legal issues, interpret statutes, and recommend courses of action for judicial consideration.
  • Assist the Judge in drafting opinions, memoranda, orders, and other court correspondence.
  • Manage priority case files, track document statuses, and support case scheduling.
  • Communicate effectively with attorneys, court staff, and external agencies.
  • Attend court proceedings, meetings, and trainings as required.
  • Handle special projects and other duties assigned by the Judge.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctor (JD) from accredited institutions.
  • Must pass the Pennsylvania State Bar Exam within 12 months of hire.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant laws, legal research methods, and court procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable managing multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and communicate professionally in oral and written forms.
  • Must successfully pass required criminal background checks.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Predominantly office-based with occasional court attendance.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, communicate clearly, and perform routine office tasks including lifting objects up to 20 lbs.
