Job DetailsJob Location: GIBSON CITY, IL 60936Position Type: Full TimeSalary Range: $32.00 - $48.00 HourlyJOB TITLE: PROCEDURAL RN DEPARTMENT: OUTPATIENT CLINIC GENERAL SUMMARY The Procedural Nurse (RN) provides nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in various areas of the hospital. The Procedural Nurse is responsible for patient assessment, preparation, intra-procedural monitoring, and post-procedure recovery while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and adherence to clinical standards and regulatory requirements. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Patient Assessment and Preparation 1. Perform comprehensive pre-procedure assessments including review of medical history, medications, allergies, and laboratory results. 2. Verify physician orders, procedure consent, and patient readiness. 3. Establish intravenous access and prepare patients for procedures as indicated. 4. Educate patients and families regarding procedures, expectations, and post-procedure care. Procedural Assistance 1. Assist physicians and other providers during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. 2. Prepare and maintain a sterile field and ensure proper functioning of equipment and supplies. 3. Anticipate procedural needs to promote efficiency and patient safety. 4. Assist with specimen collection, labeling, and handling as required. Patient Monitoring 1. Monitor patient vital signs and clinical status before, during, and after procedures. 2. Administer medications as ordered and according to facility policies. 3. Recognize and respond to patient complications or adverse reactions. Post-Procedure Care 1. Monitor patients during the recovery phase and assess for complications. 2. Provide discharge instructions and/or education to patients and families. 3. Coordinate patient transfer or discharge according to facility protocols. Documentation 1. Accurately document assessments, medications, procedural events, and patient responses in the electronic medical record. 2. Ensure documentation meets regulatory, legal, and facility standards. Safety and Compliance 1. Adhere to infection prevention and sterile technique protocols. 2. Follow safety guidelines related to procedural equipment and environment. 3. Maintain compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and professional nursing practice. Collaboratation 1. Work collaboratively with physicians, technologists, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare team members. 2. Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives and staff education activities. PHYSICAL/EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS 5. Visual acuity to observe patient assessment data and use manual/automated documentation tools. 6. Auditory acuity to hear patient verbal communication and gather data using auscultatory skills. 7. Manual dexterity of hands and feet to ambulate 8-12 hours per shift and to adroitly manage multiple pieces of equipment/tubes/invasive lines. 8. Physical strength to perform CPR (bed/floor), lift/push/pull 60-300 pounds (with assistance) as often as 20 times per 8-12 hours and perform constant walking, twisting, turning, and stretching maneuvers in patient care and use of patient care equipment. 9. Physical strength to perform the following lifting tasks: • Floor to waist - 40 pounds • 14” to waist - 50 pounds • Waist to shoulder - 30 pounds • Shoulder to overhead - 10 pounds • Carry 40 pounds 30 feet • Push 40 pounds/force 30 feet • Pull 40 pounds/force 10 feet • Carry 20# away from body for 30ft 10. Keen mental faculties to perform assessment and decision-making skills in the management of acutely ill patients. 11. Possess an interested and empathetic attitude toward caring for the patients and families seeking care and services at the GAHHS Surgical Services Department. 12. Communications/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone. 13. Emotional stability conducive to dealing with a high stress level for 8-12 hours at a time associated with caring for acute patients, fast paced physical activity, rapidly changing patient conditions, emotional demands of patients and their families, and the demands of maintaining effective working relationships with peers, managers, physicians and other health care workers. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP Reports to manager of Outpatient Clinic QualificationsEDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: 1. Previous surgical circulator experience preferred but not required. 2. Current Illinois licensure 3. BLS/CPR, PALS and ACLS certification required within six months of hire if not current. INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVEL Category 1 - Maximal Risk – this job exposes you to potential blood, body fluids, and tissues on a routine basis. It is recommended that you get the Hepatitis B vaccine. WORKING CONDITIONS 1. Works in patient care areas where there are few discomforts due to dust, dirt, noise and the like. 2. Works with patients and may be exposed to contagious diseases or infectious materials, but potential for personal harm and injury is limited when proper safety and health precautions and equipment are used.
