Job DetailsJob Location: Gibson City, IL 60936Position Type: Full TimeSalary Range: $18.00 - $25.00 HourlyHOURS & SHIFT REQUIREMENTS:  Regular full time Monday - Friday; 40 hours/week (rotating weekends). 8:30am – 5:30pm.  Must have current IL Pharmacy Tech License and Pharmacy Technician Certification.  Schedule will vary & position is at retail location. GENERAL SUMMARY Pharmacy technicians play a vital part in assisting pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory and maintenance of records.  You will work in a fast-paced environment ensuring the safe and effective delivery of pharmaceutical services to patients.  Pharmacy technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.  They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist. GIBSON AREA HOSPITAL & HEALTH SERVICES MISSION STATEMENT To provide personalized, professional healthcare services to the residents of the communities we serve. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.    Procures and distributes drug orders per physician request, pharmacist request or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures and protocols, and within specified timeframe.  2.    Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies, procedures and protocols and within specific timeframe.  3.    Contributes to the effective operation of the department. 4.    Daily Automation duties as assigned.  5.    Participates in the quality improvement activities of the department. 6.    Participate in improvement activities that affect the pharmacy inventory and cost. 7.    Maintains competency required for current job title/position.  8.    Prepares prescriptions and reconstitutes oral suspensions. 9.    Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.  10.    Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified times.   11.    Ability to work cooperatively with pharmacy staff.   12.    Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.   13.    Ability to set priorities and solve problems.   14.    Fosters a team environment by providing orientation and training to new team members.   15.    Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).   16.    Make local deliveries daily. 17.    Ability to interact and assist the public (customers, patients) 18.    Process insurance claims 19.    Receive prescriptions and check their validity 20.    Select appropriate medicine and measuring dosages to fill prescriptions 21.    Sterilize surfaces and equipment 22.    Provide excellent patient service by answering inquiries and educating patients about their medications. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS WITHOUT ACCOMMODATIONS 1.    Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of a computer keyboard).  2.    May require lifting and carrying light loads (e.g., boxes, equipment) and stooping or kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers).  3.    Physical strength to perform the following lifting tasks: •    Floor to waist - 30 pounds •    14” to waist - 40 pounds •    Waist to shoulder - 20 pounds •    Shoulder to overhead - 20 pounds •    Carry 30 pounds for 30 feet •    Push 40 pounds/force for 15 feet •    Pull 40 pounds/force for 15 feet 4.    Walking or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) often necessary. 5.     Must be able to physically operate the equipment used in the job.  REPORTING RELATIONSHIP Reports to the Pharmacy managers.  Close supervision is received by the Pharmacy managers. Functional supervision may be exercised by the Pharmacists and Lead Pharmacy Technician as assigned by the managers.   QualificationsEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: 1.    High School diploma or equivalent. 2.    College courses desirable but not required. 3.    Current pharmacy technician certification, required with 2 years of receiving State of Illinois Pharmacy Technician License. 4.    Two or more year’s pharmacy technician experience preferred, but not required.  5.    State of Illinois Pharmacy Technician License INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVEL Category 2 – Minimal Risk - This job may expose you occasionally or in emergency situations to blood, body fluids or tissue.  It is recommended that you get the Hepatitis B vaccine. OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS: 1.    Potential for exposure to hazardous and toxic substances (including chemotherapeutic, cytotoxic drugs and cleaning solutions), sticks or cuts by needles and other sharp items 2.    Potential for musculoskeletal injuries if proper lifting and carrying techniques are not used.  3.    Potential for exposure to infectious patients or material negligible.
