About the Role:

The Director, 503A Pharmacist in Charge is responsible for the overall regulatory compliance, patient safety and clinical oversight of a 503A compounding pharmacy. This role ensures adherence to all federal and state regulations while leading both sterile and non-sterile compounding services and dispensing accuracy. The PIC/Director oversees all compliance activities to ensure effective, and compliant medication preparation and dispensing.

You Will:

  • Serve as the designated Pharmacist-in-Charge per state board of pharmacy requirements

  • Ensure full compliance with USP <795>, <797>, and <800> standards

  • Maintain compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations governing 503A compounding pharmacies

  • Act as primary liaison with regulatory agencies and oversee inspections and audits

  • Maintain licensure, permits, and documentation required for pharmacy operations

  • Ensure safe and efficient sterile and non-sterile compounding practices

  • Implement and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs)

  • Monitor compounding accuracy, quality, and safety

  • Oversee procurement, storage, and handling of medications and supplies

  • Oversee environmental monitoring, sterility assurance, and beyond-use dating practices

  • Ensure proper documentation of compounding records and batch logs

  • Investigate deviations, errors, and adverse events; implement CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions)

  • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement

  • Ensure appropriate training and competency assessments for all personnel

  • Foster a collaborative and accountable team environment

  • Ensure compliant review and verification of prescriptions for appropriateness and safety

  • Provide clinical guidance on compounded formulations including patient information and counseling

  • Ensure patient-specific compounding meets therapeutic and regulatory requirements

  • Collaborate with executive leadership and legal on pharmacy strategy and growth initiatives

  • Collaborate with quality and operations to drive compliance and change management.

  • Support implementation of new compounding services and technologies

  • Ensure readiness for inspections and accreditation (if applicable, e.g., PCAB)

You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (Doctorate preferred)

  • 8+ years experience as a pharmacist, 5 or more as a PIC or pharmacy manager

  • Effective knowledge of state and federal pharmacy laws, rules and regulations related to the practice of pharmacy

  • Active Pharmacist License in pharmacy home state, unencumbered by pending or previous discipline, or willing to obtain licensure in pharmacy home state

  • Licensed in 15 or more states

  • Regulatory, compliance or pharmacy audit experience

  • Ability to work flexible shift times

  • Proficiency in English, verbal and written

  • Proficiency in Windows based computer systems

  • Ability to deliver and receive feedback and information effectively to individuals and groups

  • Willingness to work in a team environment and promote company culture

Preferred Qualification:

  • Registered and/or Licensed in AZ, MD, VA, WV, LA, AL, MI, MS, TX, OR, KS, OK, TN, AR, KY, AR, AK, OH

  • Knowledge of principles, theories and laws, policies and procedures that pertain to compounding- specifically USP <795>, <800>, other USP general chapters

  • Mail Service/Mail Order Pharmacy Experience

  • Experience with scheduling and project management

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position will require working with Hazardous Drugs (HD) and would require that Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) be worn for the length of working with these drugs. These items would include gloves, respiratory protection, gown and other items as required.

  • This position requires medical approval to wear respiratory protection in the form of negative or positive pressure respirators, including N95, full face respirator, SCBA, or Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR).

  • Physical exertion required. Including, but not limited to, walking up to 50% of the time, standing up to 100% of the time, squatting and bending up to 20% of the time and lifting up to 80% of the time for up to a twelve hour shift. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.

  • Due to the risk of reproductive capability in handling or compounding certain Hazardous Drugs (HD) associates must be willing to confirm that they understand the potential risks (teratogenicity, carcinogenicity and reproductive effects) of handling hazardous drugs.
