Job Summary
The Patient Access Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operations of patient access functions including registration, admissions, insurance verification, and customer service. This role ensures efficient, accurate, and patient-centered access to care while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Hires, trains, and evaluates patient access staff
Develops work schedules and manages staffing levels
Conducts performance evaluations and coaching
Ensures adherence to departmental policies and procedures
Addresses employee relations issues in collaboration with HR
Duties/Responsibilities
Oversee daily patient access operations (registration, admissions, discharge processes)
Ensure accuracy of patient demographic, insurance, and billing information
Monitor productivity, quality metrics, and patient satisfaction scores
Resolve patient issues, complaints, and escalations in a timely manner
Collaborate with clinical departments, revenue cycle, and billing teams
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CMS regulations, and payer requirements
Analyze reports and KPIs to improve workflow and reduce denials
Implement process improvements and best practices
Assist in budget management and cost control initiatives
Support system upgrades, training, and process changes
Education / Certifications / Licenses
High School Diploma or GED (required)
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field (preferred)
CHAA (Certified Healthcare Access Associate) or CHAM (Certified Healthcare Access Manager) preferred
Experience
3–5 years of healthcare patient access or revenue cycle experience
1–3 years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred
Experience with hospital/clinic registration systems and EMR platforms
Required Skills / Abilities
Strong leadership and team management skills
Knowledge of insurance verification, authorization, and billing processes
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Analytical and problem-solving abilities
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency in EHR/EMR systems and Microsoft Office
Understanding of healthcare compliance and regulatory standardsÂ
