Job Description:

Seeking a skilled and energetic Manufacturing Engineer to provide direct support for 2nd shift manufacturing operations. This position supports strategic programs essential to maintaining U.S. Armed Forces’ readiness.  The successful Manufacturing Engineer will require both strong manufacturing engineering fundamentals and a hands-on, highly responsive approach to supporting shop floor execution with real-time support of 2nd shift production activities.  The role will work closely with operations, quality, planning, and maintenance teams to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant manufacturing performance while minimizing downtime and resolving issues quickly during off-hours operations.  The role will also include traditional manufacturing engineering functions such as process development, work instruction creation, tooling support, root cause investigation, process improvement, and production readiness for mechanical, electronic, and electro-mechanical assemblies.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Provide primary manufacturing engineering support for 2nd shift production, serving as the main manufacturing engineering point of contact for shop floor issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve process, equipment, tooling and documentation-related issues that impact safety, quality, delivery, or production flow.
  • Analyze manufacturing production problems and implement corrective actions involving designs, materials, and processes.
  • Provide technical expertise and support related to manufacturing.
  • Train production personnel in new or existing operations.
  • Clearly and effectively communicate and document production issues and actions taken with other shifts.
  • Analyze engineering design documents and develop the methods, processes, tools, jigs, fixtures,etc. required to fabricate the specified product.
  • Develop and prepare work instructions, control plans, Process Failure Mode Effects Analyses (PFMEAs), and process validation plans.
  • Incorporate new methods and processes to improve existing operations.
  • Review product designs for manufacturabilikty and completeness.
  • Interface with equipment vendors and specify equipment through writing Statement of Requirements documents.
  • Prepare capital equipment requests.
  • Design layout of equipment and workspaces.
  • Prepare reports and whtie papers summarizing information or trents related to manufacturing performance.
  • Conduct capacity analysis, capability studies, and gauge repeatability and reproductibility studies.
  • 6 years or more experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel).
  • Less than 10% travel expected.
  • Ability to obtain a US Security clearance.
  • Other duties assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience OR Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related manufacturing experience.
  • 4 years or more of work experience related to the fabrication or assembly of close tolerance mechanical, electronic, or electro-mechanical piece parts.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Bachelors degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in the defense or aerospace industry.
  • Experience with pressing, staking, riveting, swaging, potting, electronics soldering, conformal coating, packaging, X-ray inspection, laser welding, robotics, and control systems.
  • Experience with ANSI J-STD-001, AS9100, and ANSI Y14.5.
  • Experience with SolidEdge and Minitab.
  • Experience with 6sig, 8D, CostPoint, TipQA, GD&T.
