Job Summary:  

Plans and directs activities concerning environmental, safety and health regulatory compliance.  Demonstrates expertise in the concepts, practices and procedures of federal, state and local regulations. Identifies environmental and safety issues that may affect the associates and facilities and develops plans for preventive and corrective action. 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations (OSHA, EPA, DEP & DOT) on air and water pollution, waste disposal, chemical release and hazardous materials storage and handling
  • Develops regulatory compliance strategies
  • Ensures all government-mandated training requirements are fully satisfied
  • Ensures the preparation of reports and documentation  relating to permits and environmental, health and  safety compliance 
  • Participates in environmental, health and safety audits and inspections
  • Recommends corrective and preventive actions to the Corporate Safety Committee.
  • Recommends improvements to the facility emergency evacuation plan in cooperation with the Emergency Planning Committee and York County Office of Emergency Management
  • Update and maintains the Integrated Preparedness, Prevention & Contingency Plan
  • Participates in developing safe and environmentally sound work practices
  • Leads the Environmental Safety Committee
  • Acts as a permanent member of the Corporate Safety Committee
  • Ensures that all new chemicals and/or processes are effectively assessed for hazard potential and adequate safeguards are implemented prior to use
  • Maintains the MSDSonline database with current safety data sheets
  • Addresses customer requests for product information including; safety data sheets, article letters, RoHS and REACH compliance and other product information
  • Reviews and approves Process Hazard Analyses and Product Design Reviews for new parts and products 
  • Maintains the Hazardous Materials shipper certification
  • Manages the residual and hazardous waste disposal program
  • Completes Toxic Release Inventory, Tier II and  Air Emission Inventory reporting annually
  • Regularly tours facilities to personally inspect operations and communicate with different departments and associates to assure EH&S risks are understood and responsibly managed to minimize potential for incidents and injuries
  • Ensures that the health, safety, and environmental impact policies and practices are established and effectively  implemented
  • Analyzes potential worker safety risks; implements measures to mitigate them
  • Regularly tours facilities to inspect for environmental compliance
  • Investigates and recommends courses of corrective and preventative actions for incidents and injuries as may be required
    • Regularly monitors key metrics and communicates status versus goals; identifies and implements continuous improvement actions as warranted; makes identifiable and substantial contributions to improvement of systems, processes and practices
    • Conducts all aspects of position in a professional, respectful manner consistent with AR Guiding Principles; embraces 6S LEAN culture; organizes personal work areas and appearance consistent with corporate and divisional professional image

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Job Specifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in technical discipline and/or 5 years of on-the-job experience in Environmental or Safety Science, Environmental Engineering or Chemistry functions
  • Familiarity of EH&S management systems (ISO, OSHA, GHS)
  • Strong communication (oral & written), and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in both a team and independently
  • Ability to understand and develop systems to support environmental  initiatives
  • Ability to communicate within all levels of the organization, as well as with outside organizations and regulatory agencies 
  • Capable of  handling potentially  high-stress emergency situations
  • Proficiency with standard desktop computer software applications
  • On call at all hours as circumstances require
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time as business needs warrant
