Job DetailsJob Location: Public Works - GLENDALE HEIGHTS, IL 60139Position Type: Full TimeSalary Range: $34.18 - $44.74 HourlyThe Village of Glendale Heights has a position available for a Mechanic in the Fleets Division of the Public Works Department. Performs semi-skilled and skilled work in maintaining the vehicles and mechanical equipment of the Village.  Carries out repairs and evaluates preventive maintenance on vehicles and mechanical equipment.  Operates a variety of diagnostic instruments and a variety of hand, electric, and air-driven tools.  Tests, services and repairs vehicles and mechanical equipment. Inspects, adjusts and replaces necessary units and all related parts in the performance of repair and maintenance work.  Ability to perform general maintenance and repairs on hydraulic air, and computerized operated braking systems, mechanical and computer-controlled engine and related systems, hydraulic systems, suspension systems, electrical systems, and drivetrain systems on all vehicles and equipment related to needs of municipal activities. Repairs brake systems, engine, electrical, fuel, hydraulic, transmission, ignition, air, exhaust, axle assemblies and related systems.  Ability to cut, weld and fabricate metals.  Changes and repairs tires and tubes. Thorough knowledge of automotive mechanics; Considerable knowledge of gas and diesel engines, hydraulics, pumps and valves, generators, and welding; grades or quality of materials and equipment; Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities; Working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and tools used in modern equipment maintenance. Knowledge of International and Peterbilt heavy trucks advantage.QualificationsGraduation from high school diploma or GED equivalent plus some specialized training in mechanics, maintenance management, or a closely related field; two (2) years of related experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Illinois State driver’s license and proper CDL certifications or ability to obtain one within 6 months from date of employment. Hourly Rate – $34.18 to $44.74, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The Village of Glendale Heights offers a generous benefit package.  This is a full-time Teamsters, non-exempt position.
