Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Metallurgy Technician whose primary responsibility is to perform routine metallurgical, mechanical, failure, and corrosion testing to support metallurgy operations within the laboratory setting.

 

Salary: $27.88- $31.73/hr DOE 

 

Responsibilities

• Read and apply specifications, procedures, drawings, and sketches to accurately prepare and test specimens.• Conduct corrosion tests, heat treatments, and hardness tests (Brinell, Rockwell, Vickers, microhardness) following established procedures.• Safely perform sectioning, mounting, grinding, polishing, and chemical etching for metallurgical evaluations.• Use and maintain laboratory equipment and tools, demonstrating proficiency with a range of devices for analysis and collection.• Maintain traceability, client confidentiality, and adhere to 5S protocols, safety standards, quality requirements and accreditations.• Utilize computer systems and specialized software to record, analyze, and report test data.• Work closely with managers and team members, provide regular updates, and support junior colleagues when needed.• Handle moderately complex issues independently and escalate more complicated problems appropriately.

Skills / Qualifications

• Effective time management, task prioritization, and independent work capability• Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills• Intermediate proficiency in reading, writing, math, and computer applications• Clear communication skills with the ability to follow and give instructions• Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills• Familiarity with laboratory safety practices and cost control awareness• Knowledge of 5S and SQDC principles and their impact on lab efficiency• B.S. in materials science or metallurgy preferred or 1-4 years demonstrated technical/vocational experience in metallurgy, chemistry, or related fields
