The Charge Nurse RN, Surgery Center is responsible for the organization, supervision, coordination, and daily operation of all nursing services in accordance with Federal, State, CMS, AAAHC, and facility policies and procedures. Collaborates with the Administrative Director to ensure clinical operations, regulatory compliance, patient safety, quality improvement, and infection prevention standards are maintained. Oversees patient care activities throughout the perioperative continuum while serving as the clinical resource for all nursing staff. Maintains competency to function in the Operating Room, Pre-Operative, and PACU as needed and provides direct patient care during staffing shortages or operational needs.

 

A. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

 

Nursing Supervision

  • Supervises nursing and clinical staff and provides daily clinical leadership.
  • Coordinates staffing based on patient volume, acuity, and staff competency.
  • Provides coaching, mentoring, orientation, training, and competency validation.
  • Promotes teamwork, accountability, and professional development.
  • Ensures compliance with CMS, AAAHC, CDPH, OSHA, and facility policies.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for physicians and staff.

Infection Prevention & Regulatory Compliance

  • Oversees the Infection Prevention Program and infection surveillance.
  • Conducts clinical audits, investigates trends, and implements corrective actions.
  • Supports regulatory surveys and maintains continuous survey readiness.
  • Assists with policy development and annual review.

Clinical Operations

  • Maintains competency in Pre-Op, OR, and PACU nursing.
  • Functions as Circulating RN and provides clinical coverage as needed.
  • Performs assessments, perioperative care, medication administration, and emergency response.
  • Ensures compliance with Universal Protocol, Time-Out, sterile technique, and patient safety standards.
  • Oversees accurate clinical documentation and required surgical counts.

Equipment & Safety

  • Ensures safe operation, readiness, and preventive maintenance of clinical equipment.
  • Maintains crash cart and emergency equipment readiness.
  • Reports and troubleshoots equipment malfunctions.

Communication & Documentation

  • Promotes effective communication among physicians, staff, patients, and families.
  • Oversees accurate and compliant nursing documentation and medical record review.
  • Utilizes interpreter services when appropriate.

Quality & Performance Improvement

  • Participates in the QAPI Program and patient safety initiatives.
  • Reviews incident reports, assists with investigations, and identifies process improvements.
  • Supports quality audits and corrective action plans.

Supervisory Responsibilities :

  • Supervises nursing and clinical support staff.
  • Coordinates daily nursing operations, ensures regulatory compliance, maintains staff competencies, and promotes high-quality patient care in collaboration with the Administrative Director.

 

 

The anticipated pay range for this position is $65.00–$70.00 per hour, with actual compensation based on experience, licensure, skills, qualifications, and market factors.

Qualifications

 

Qualifications

  • Active RN license; current BLS & ACLS (PALS preferred)
  • 2+ years ASC, OR circulating, pre-op, and PACU experience
  • Charge/Lead/Supervisory experience preferred
  • CNOR/CNAMB and BSN preferred
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in EMR & Microsoft Office
  • Armenian or Spanish bilingual a plus
  • This position works an AWS schedule
