  • Candidates should have experience designing equity compensation plans, working with investors, and strong modeling and analysis skills.
  • The role offers a competitive salary range of $200,000 to $250,000, depending on experience, and emphasizes the use of AI and automation in financial processes.
  • Ideal candidates will also possess expertise in finance tools, have a strong command of QuickBooks and NetSuite, and experience with SOC 2 / ISO 27001 compliance.

Role Overview

As VP of Finance you will lead finance for Moon and also oversee finance for a sister operating company with 80+ employees - bringing startup and VC discipline to a business scaling toward a major platform launch. You have come up through high-growth technology companies, raised money from VCs, designed equity compensation plans, and worked directly with investors. We expect AI and agents to do the repetitive work of this function: you will build finance that way from the start.

About the role

•   You will join reporting to the CEO with a Controller reporting to you, owning everything from monthly close discipline and FP&A to the financial model, investor materials, and the reporting the President/CEO runs the companies on.

What you'll do

•   Own financial operations across both companies: close, budgets, cash, intercompany and platform billing, and the board pack.

•   Build and run the FP&A function: forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis, scenario models, and the operating metrics behind headcount and investment decisions.

•   Produce monthly financial reports by company, with evaluation and analysis - what the numbers say, why, and what we should do about it.

•   Deliver the reports and visibility the President/CEO needs to run the companies, and build investor presentations and decks.

•   Support the software modules commercially: work with banks, payment processors, and financing companies to structure and operate the payments and financing programs the platform offers.

•   Build financial unit economics for a large R&D and project-based workforce: R&D cost treatment, per-module and per-user economics, pricing support.

•   Design equity and incentive structures with the People team: bonus plan mechanics, equity or profits-interest programs, executive comp.

•   Create and maintain a documented SOP Run Book of company finance operations - the function runs on written process, not memory.

•   Serve as de facto lead on legal agreements and legal needs across the companies, coordinating outside counsel.

•   Work with external auditors to complete audits of company financials.

•   Prepare the company for institutional scrutiny: diligence readiness and audit-ready practices supporting SOC 2.

•   Own the finance side of SOC 2 and ISO 27001: financial and access controls, vendor risk management, and audit evidence - partnering with IT and People to certify ahead of launch.

•   Deploy AI agents and automation across the finance stack.

Qualifications

•   10+ years in finance with senior roles at VC-backed technology startups; has been through raises firsthand.

•   Has designed equity compensation plans and worked directly with investors and boards.

•   Has built or led an FP&A function; strong modeling and analysis craft.

•   Expert in modern finance and ops tooling (e.g., Ramp, Rippling, Navan) and AI agents in real workflows.

•   Working command of both QuickBooks and NetSuite - able to run one and lead a migration to the other.

•   Experience negotiating with banks, payment processors, or financing partners a strong plus.

•   Experience with R&D-heavy or project-based workforce economics.

•   Has operated under or achieved SOC 2 / ISO 27001 a strong plus.
