The primary purpose and function of the Relief Veterinarian is to provide preventative care, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries of Pets. Responsibilities include ensuring the safety of pets, clients, and associates by using safe restraining techniques, maintaining clean and organized treatment areas, obtaining relevant client and pet information, educating clients about preventative care and treatments, providing professional and efficient service including prescribing and administering preventative care, communicating diagnosis and treatment plans effectively, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws including controlled substance inventory, and following state guidelines regarding veterinary assistants and technicians. Additional duties may be assigned. The role requires multi-tasking, strong communication, organizational, surgical, problem-solving, client service, intellectual, compassionate commitment to pet care, mathematical, computer, and management skills. The candidate must demonstrate initiative, integrity, cooperativeness, flexibility, independence, and tolerance for stress. Special working conditions include confidence around various pets, potential for more than 40 hours per week including weekends and evenings, exposure to noise and potential hazards, and physical requirements such as standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and good hand-eye coordination. Experience and education requirements include a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree, a license in good standing with the applicable state veterinary board, a DEA license, and proven ability to perform basic surgeries. The position offers a pay range of $130 - $180 per hour depending on experience, skill level, education, and location.
