Position Summary

The Senior Energy Engineer, Construction Energy Division is responsible for leading the technical design, analysis, and implementation of energy systems supporting construction energy projects from preconstruction through commissioning and closeout.

This role serves as the technical authority within the project team, ensuring that all energy systems—including renewable generation, energy storage, and efficiency solutions—are designed, coordinated, and executed in alignment with project requirements, constructability standards, and performance goals.

The Senior Energy Engineer works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and external consultants to ensure seamless integration between engineering design and field execution. This role also supports innovation, value engineering, and continuous improvement across the Energy Division and has a growth path toward Director-level technical leadership.

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Design

  • Lead the design and engineering of energy systems including solar PV, battery storage, microgrids, and energy efficiency solutions.
  • Review and approve engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to Energy Engineers and project teams.

Project Integration & Execution Support

  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Superintendents during all project phases.
  • Support constructability reviews and ensure designs are aligned with field conditions.
  • Assist in resolving technical issues during construction.
  • Participate in commissioning and system performance validation.

Preconstruction & Value Engineering

  • Support estimating and preconstruction teams with system design and technical input.
  • Evaluate alternative systems, materials, and technologies for cost and performance optimization.
  • Provide input on project feasibility and energy modeling.

Documentation & Systems Management

  • Oversee preparation and coordination of engineering deliverables.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of drawings, specifications, and calculations.
  • Maintain engineering documentation in company systems.

Quality & Performance Assurance

  • Ensure energy systems meet performance targets and design intent.
  • Support testing, commissioning, and system verification processes.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Research and evaluate new energy technologies and solutions.
  • Support development of standards and best practices for the Energy Division.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and tools.

Criteria/Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in energy engineering, renewable systems, or related field — corresponds to Low salary range
  • 9+ years of experience in energy engineering, renewable systems, or related field — corresponds to Mid salary range
  • 12+ years of experience in energy engineering, renewable systems, or related field — corresponds to High salary range
  • Strong knowledge of solar PV, battery storage, and energy systems design.
  • Experience supporting construction or design-build projects.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contracts.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or related field.

Certifications (preferred):

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • NABCEP Certification (Solar)
  • LEED Accreditation
