Job Summary: The Certified Athletic Trainer is responsible for the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions related to athletic participation. This role collaborates closely with medical professionals, coaches, and community partners to support safe participation, optimize performance, and facilitate timely return to activity.

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Biology, Exercise Science, or Kinesiology. Masters degree, preferred.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC).

Work Experience: Minimum 1 year related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of principles and practices of athletic training, sports medicine, and injury prevention. Knowledge of rehabilitation techniques and therapeutic exercise programs. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal that present clear and concise information. Developing and implementing skills in individualized treatment and rehabilitation plans. Ability to observe and accurately interpret athlete health, performance, and injury conditions. Sound ability to maintain professional and courteous and demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment and to interact positively with school faculty and students.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Assesses and diagnoses sports-related injuries and conditions. Develops and implements individualized injury prevention and rehabilitation programs. Provides immediate care for acute injuries, including first aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and emergency response. Monitors athlete’s progress and adapts treatment plans as needed. Educates athletes, coaches, and staff on injury prevention, safe training techniques, and wellness strategies. Maintains accurate medical and treatment records in compliance with privacy regulations.

Collaborates with physicians, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals for coordinated care. Ensures compliance with safety regulations and best practices during training and competition. Participates in continuing education to stay current with sports medicine trends and techniques.

Decision Making: The carrying out of non-routine procedures under constantly changing conditions, in conformance with general instructions from a supervisor.

Working Relationships: Coordinates activities of others (does not supervise). Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal and/or external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Works frequently with individuals at Director level or above.
