Responsibilities

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Organizes, manages, and evaluates nursing orientation, competency programs, and continuing education programs, assuring successful completion at planned intervals. Ensures that education programs are evidence-based and comply with regulatory requirements including documentation of competency.

  • Assesses educational needs, conducts education programs, and validates staff competence in accordance with Unit-Based standards of practice.

  • Partners with Nursing Leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Clinical 

  • Transition Programs to facilitate Graduate/Registered Nurse transition into clinical practice. Provides consultation and on-going support to Graduate/Registered Nurses in assigned service line departments through Glens Falls Hospital’s ANCC accredited with distinction Nurse Residency Program.

  • Reviews and revises orientation/competency documents as required. Reviews and revises orientation schedule as needed.

  • Provides consultation and support to Nursing Staff on all shifts. Rounds on assigned Units. Assists Clinical Nurse Preceptors/Nurse Managers in the assessment of learning needs and the implementation and evaluation of performance improvement plans, as necessary, in order to develop staff competence in the practice area.

  • Utilizes own clinical competency to promote delivery of high-quality patient care. 

  • Functions as a role model for clinical care.

  • Implements and evaluates new and existing clinical processes, protocols, and equipment. Provides initial/on-going education to the Nursing Staff.

  • Supports Clinical Preceptors/Nurse Managers in assuring a comprehensive unit-based orientation for new Nursing Staff. Provides leadership for Clinical Nurse Preceptor Development Programs.

  • Utilizes e-learning solutions to provide Unit-Based education programs. Provides guidance in e-learning content development as requested. 

  • Supports Clinical Nurses in the development, implementation, and evaluation of 

  • Unit-Based education, quality projects, and professional development activities. 

  • Serves as a member and resource of assigned Nursing Councils. In partnership with the Education Department Secretary and Unit-Based Nurse Managers, coordinates clinical experiences for Affiliated Nursing Students.

  • Identifies, develops, and supports Nursing “Super-Users” to provide Unit-Based training and support to End-Users.

  • Quality and Performance Improvement in Partnership with Nursing Leadership:

  • Facilitates review, revision, and development of policies and procedures specific to evidence-based nursing practice. 

  • In partnership with Nurse Managers, identifies and initiates system changes to support improvements in patient care and enhanced workflow and productivity. 

  • Reviews clinical events involving Nursing Staff and provides direct education/support/monitoring as needed for positive patient care outcomes. Ensures nursing peer review is conducted when indicated and reported through a centralized database. 

  • Partners with Nursing Leadership to assure clinical compliance with regulatory agency requirements (i.e., Joint Commission Standards, CMS/COP, NYSDOH, and DNV-GL requirements).

  • Participates in on-going quality improvement initiatives that impact assigned service line departments.

  • Design, Implementation, and Optimization of Clinical Information Systems in collaboration with Senior Informatics Nurse Specialist.

Education/Accredited Programs

  • BSN required. MSN preferred (degree to be completed within 4 years of accepting position).

  • 3 years of clinical experience required, preferably in an acute care setting. 

  • 3 years of classroom/clinical teaching experience preferred. 

  • Demonstrated leadership skills as evidenced by previous experience Clinical Nurse Preceptor/Educator experience

Licenses/Certifications/Registrations

  • Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.

  • BLS & ACLS certification required.

  • American Heart Association Instructor for BLS and/or ACLS (to be obtained within 6 months of hire).

  • ANCC Board Certification in Nursing Professional Development or NLN Certified Nurse Educator preferred (certification to be completed within 4 years of accepting position). 

  • Board Certification in assigned service line specialty preferred.

Skills/Abilities

  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office. 

  • Knowledge of EMR systems.

  • Knowledge of adult teaching and learning principles 

  • Demonstrated ability to teach individuals and groups of learners. 

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with patients and professionals of all disciplines. 

  • Ability to develop broad concepts into practical applications.

Salary Range
The expected base rate for this Glens Falls, New York, United States-based position is $85,315.35 to $127,973. Exact rate is determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with experience level, as well as education and certifications pertaining to each position which may be above the listed job requirements.
