Salary Range
The expected base rate for this Glens Falls, New York, United States-based position is $24.13 to $39.69 per hour. How You Will Fulfill Your Potential (Responsibilities):

  • Under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist facilitates sterile medication preparation using sterile aseptic technique in compliance with USP 797 standards, coordinates the manufacturing of sterile preparations to ensure the timely delivery of sterile compounded preparations, including selecting the correct medication from stock, picking the correct diluents, performing mathematical calculations, preparing materials, reconstituting, identifying appropriate strength and diluents, manipulating necessary instruments and measuring accurate volumes. 

  • Familiarity with common doses and administration techniques. 

  • Safe handling of potentially hazardous agents and safe retention of a spill.

  • Coordinate workflow based on inpatient and outpatient volumes. 

  • Cleans and disinfects primary engineering controls and sterile preparation/admixing areas to ensure a sterile manufacturing environment is maintained in compliance with USP 797. 

  • Purchase medications needed directly from the wholesaler, ensuring they meet specifications and are purchased at the best possible cost or within defined contracts as appropriate. Use of a point of preparation ordering system, maintaining inventory within established guidelines. Generate inventory data when necessary.

  • Monitor and maintain perpetual cancer center pharmacy inventory to ensure adequate par levels for cost containment, proper storage, adequate dating of medications, stock rotation and inventory documentation. Monitor and document equipment performance according to policy e.g. refrigerator temperatures and primary engineering controls pressures. Perform monthly Cancer Center Pharmacy Inspection.

  • Manages inventory (including back-orders and stock-outs) to ensure adequate stock is available. Provide proactive communication to allow inventory management and product transitions when required. Assist as required with inventory recall notifications.

  • Interprets Pyxis generated fill lists and loads in conjunction with dispensing technology to provide the appropriate medication, dosage, form, strength, size, and quantity and safety for distribution to designated Pyxis Med Stations locations.

 

What You Bring (Qualifications): 

 

Education/Accredited Programs

  • High School graduate or Equivalence certificate required

  • Pharmacy technician for 2 years and holds a current National Pharmacy Technician Certification 

  • Competency in the safe handling of chemotherapy drugs obtained within 6 months and renewed annually 

 

Licenses/Certifications/Registrations

  • Current in NYS licensure

  • National IV certification preferred

 

Skills/Abilities

  • Technical knowledge and understanding of the handling of agents in an IV room environment

  • Precise measurement of agents with extreme cautionary measures including mathematical understanding of volumes, concentration and general dosing ranges 

  • Follows instructions precisely

  • Computer skills (Word, Excel and MS Outlook) preferred

  • Ability to work independently and with others as a team player

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required
