As a Unit Secretary, you are the central air traffic controller and steady anchor for one of our active medical-surgical units. By commanding the front desk, routing communication, and managing patient medical charts, you free up nurses and physicians to focus entirely on direct bedside care. Your rapid response to intercoms, mastery of the computer network, and sharp organizational skills during patient transfers and discharges directly reduce hospital wait times. You do not just handle administrative tasks; you actively orchestrate a calm, safe, and flawlessly coordinated environment that allows our clinical teams to save lives.

  • Act as the vital communication bridge between patients, nursing personnel, doctors, and the public.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Handle all incoming phone calls and patient intercoms with a friendly, respectful tone, routing messages to the right staff instantly.
  • Seamlessly manage the electronic paperwork required for patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and unit medical records.
  • Transcribe specific physician orders for diagnostic tests, specialized treatments, outside consults, and medications.
  • Order crucial medical supplies, arrange immediate equipment repairs, and manage the unit’s bulletin and communication boards.
  • Arrange for the prompt escort and transit of patients, urgent specimens, vital supplies, and equipment across different hospital wings.
  • Spot and address minor unit problems or communication bottlenecks immediately, escalating issues to the Director when necessary.
