Description

  

The Village of Glenview, located in northeast Illinois, is seeking a temporary summer Landscape Architect Intern. The Village of Glenview’s internship program is geared toward college students seeking to supplement their academic training and expand their professional knowledge and skills in municipal government.


Duties include, but are not limited to, reviewing landscape plans and providing feedback to applicants to ensure compliance with Village code and zoning ordinances, evaluating project compliance with approved landscape plans during the development phase, site inspections to ascertain any missing quantities and species of landscape material for both ongoing and completed projects, collaboration and implementation of landscaping, natural resource, and sustainability initiatives, assistance with tree preservation permits, and coordination of enforcement on developments that do not comply with approved landscape plans.


The intern will receive directions, guidance, and mentoring from technical and management staff within the Community Development Department and will report to the Planning Division Manager or her designee.

Requirements

  

The ideal candidate will have a high school degree or equivalent and be currently enrolled in (or recently graduated from) an accredited college or university, with an emphasis in landscape architecture or design, horticulture, natural resources, or closely aligned field.


Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a commitment to public service, and should be an energetic, self-starter who can thrive in a team environment.


The ideal candidate will possess the ability to prepare and interpret reports using various computerized electronic media (e.g., MS Office, web-based programs, etc.). Candidates must demonstrate organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task. Basic understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Land Management (LAMA) software is a plus. Outdoor site visits may be required.


Any internship offer is contingent upon the candidate’s successful completion of a background check, medical, and drug screening.


SALARY/HOW TO APPLY:

Hourly Rate: $16-18 per/hour, depending on experience/internships. 


This position is for 32 to 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a 30-minute unpaid lunch, May 2026 through August 2026 (exact dates can be flexible with the candidate’s school schedule).
