Overview: The Human Resources Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of weekly payroll for union and non-union employees, while maintaining payroll records and employee files. This role also provides primary support for workers’ compensation administration, ensuring timely reporting, documentation and coordination of claims. Pay commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities:
PayrollÂ
- Process weekly payroll for union and non-union employees, including employee changes, incentives and bonusesÂ
- Review and verify timecards, ensuring accuracy and resolving discrepanciesÂ
- Manage timekeeping system updates and data importsÂ
- Process wage garnishments, liens and child support ordersÂ
- Audit payroll reports to ensure accuracy and proper balancingÂ
- Maintain payroll data within the AS400 systemÂ
- Issue manual checks when requiredÂ
- Maintain benefit accrualsÂ
Workers’ Compensation Administration
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all workers’ compensation mattersÂ
- Promptly report workplace injuries to the insurance carrier
- Manage and track claims, ensuring proper documentation and follow-upÂ
- Process required forms (e.g., C-11, C-240, medical documentation and any other related paperwork)Â
- Coordinate with employees, managers, medical providers and insurance representativesÂ
- Maintain organized and compliant workers’ compensation filesÂ
Employee Records & Compliance
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee and payroll records in HRIS and AS400
- Maintain and administer union associate seniority records in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)
- Track union employee attendance in accordance with the CBAÂ
- Process employment verifications (current and former employees)Â
- Respond to and verify unemployment claims in a timely mannerÂ
Reporting & Support
- Process and report union pension hours, monthly dues and other required contributions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with the CBA
- Prepare and provide monthly safety data to the Health & Safety and Site Security ManagerÂ
- Prepare and provide weekly/biweekly reports to the Accounting Department
- Support audits and internal reporting as neededÂ
- Perform other related duties as assignedÂ
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2-5 years prior payroll processing experience requiredÂ
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now strongly preferredÂ
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly ExcelÂ
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skillsÂ
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretionÂ
- Effective communication and problem-solving skillsÂ
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a union environmentÂ
- Knowledge of workers’ compensation processes and regulationsÂ
- Familiarity with AS400 systems
