The Operations Leader – Animal Care promotes and ensures the efficient and effective operations of the Companion Animal Department and drives the sales of aquatic pets, reptiles, birds, and small companion animals. The Operations Leader – Animal Care will coach and mentor all Pet Care Center partners in the processes to support and drive the guest experience and animal care. The Operations Leader – Animal Care is responsible for training, developing, supporting operations scheduling and leading a high-performing team that delivers the Companion Animal department’s budgeted sales goals, gross margin, animal, and merchandise shrink targets. They will also assist in managing all aspects of the Pet Care Center’s business in accordance with Petco operational standards and safety procedures. Responsibilities include utilizing business acumen to measure, analyze and diagnose business trends and implement improvement plans; ensuring health and well-being of live animals per Petco standards; adhering to Veterinary Protocol for sick animals; processing register transactions to create great guest experiences; supporting guest interactions; implementing Companion Animal Operations and Aquatics through training and coaching; ordering live animals efficiently; maintaining operational standards and animal maintenance tasks; achieving high presentation standards; partnering with merchandising leaders for inventory; handling adoption animal documentation; maintaining knowledge of sales and margin reports; leading and coaching partners; managing partner scheduling; recruiting, hiring, training, coaching and succession planning; providing guest service; supporting Omni Channel initiatives; acting as Leader on Duty for Pet Care Center execution and compliance; promoting positive leadership culture; modeling inspiring leadership; promoting safety; fostering collaborative culture; prioritizing talent development; engaging and representing Petco’s brand. Education and experience required include a high school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred, 1+ years management experience (2+ preferred), valid driver's license, proficiency in communication, organizational and computer skills, business acumen, guest service aptitude, and supervisory responsibility over Operations Specialists & Senior Aquatics Specialists. Work environment involves indoor duties with some physical activity and occasional travel. Continuous public contact and coordination with various departments and external contacts are required.
