O’Berry Neuro Medical Treatment Center is a specialized skilled nursing facility certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. O’Berry Neuro Medical Treatment Center is recruiting for a permanent full-time Police Officer. This position has the responsibility to protect clients, staff, visitors and property at O’Berry Center and Cherry Hospital on a 24-hour/7 day a week basis. The Police Officer is charged with the provision of the state and federal law enforcement for this facility and/or surrounding areas for with the Police Department has “mutual aid” agreements. Employee in this position possess full powers of arrest to control and enforce traffic, criminal investigations, search and seizure, service of warrants and subpoenas, suspect apprehensions, collection and preservation of evidence, enforcement of chain-of-custody, and participation in court proceedings. Position responds to complaints and/or calls that require intervention and/or investigation. As such, position serves as a patrol officer, detective squad member, or crime prevention officer.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade Range: $43,811 - 70,098

This position is designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Working knowledge of investigative techniques and case preparation requirements for standard traffic and criminal cases.

  • Working knowledge of and skill in standard law enforcement equipment, its care and safe use according to Departmental Policy.

  • Working knowledge of the laws relating to the rights of suspects, search, and seizure, maintaining the chain of evidence and arrest authority as well as criminal and traffic laws.

  • Ability to act quickly and intelligently in emergency situations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively through interpersonal interactions and written documentation.

  • Ability to apply North Carolina laws to investigations.

Management Preferences

  • Experience in criminal investigations, evidence collection and preservation, search and seizure, traffic accident investigation, traffic enforcement.

  • Experience dealing with the mental health population.
