General Summary
Basic responsibility is installation, repair, and routine maintenance of communication services in the customer homes and businesses. This should be in accordance with regulations of the Company, Federal Communication’s Commission, Rural Utilities Service and Public Utility Commission requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Install, test, and repair equipment for voice, data, customer premise wiring and jacks as instructed through service orders, trouble tickets, or by supervisory personnel.
2. Pull wire through residences and businesses, including crawl spaces and attics.
3. Install, service and remove facilities as required.
4. Maintain, replace, locate and repair cable according to facility sheets and trouble tickets.
5. Repair subscriber carrier.
6. Install aerial drops.
7. Splice fiber.
8. Perform after-hours / on-call duties in a scheduled rotation, including weekends and holidays, understanding that even when not on call there are many late evenings required.
9. Call in to check for trouble, when on-call.
10. Initiate and work trouble call tickets in operations support software systems.
11. Troubleshoot customer equipment, including modems, and ability to program
different types of routers.
12. Troubleshoot computer operating systems in regard to connecting customers to the internet and data networks.
13. Keep records of all materials installed on jobs.
14. Complete necessary paperwork including daily timesheets, service orders, trouble reports, receipts, etc.
15. Know all products and services offered by the company and be able to explain them to customers.
16. Understand marketing approaches that are central to competitive telecommunication services and be sales-oriented.
17. Attend staff meetings and training sessions as necessary to keep abreast of changes in policies and procedures within your field.
18. Have a valid Texas Driver's License in order to operate vehicles.
19. Wear safety equipment when necessary.
20. Operate power tools.
21. Maintain sufficient inventory stock on vehicle and provide an accurate accounting of stock periodically.
22. Keep vehicle clean and properly maintained.
23. Stay up to date with technology changes and assist in making recommendations for system planning.
24. Serve as personal link between the Company and subscribers to promote positive public relations and ensure subscriber confidence in the Company.
25. Perform other duties as assigned or otherwise required by management.


Personnel Specifications

Experience
High school degree or equivalent. Experience installing and maintaining customer premise equipment. Experience with telephone, internet and data networks preferred.


Job Knowledge
Understanding of maps, cable schematics and customer records. General knowledge of how to operate a personal computer and various test equipment.
Must have knowledge of cable systems and test equipment. An understanding of basic electronics, specification sheets, maps and circuit diagrams is also needed.


Physical Demands
Working in awkward, cramped, extremely hot or cold, dusty and dirty conditions. In direct contact with extremely high voltage equipment. Climbing ladders wearing tool belts and carrying loads weighing a maximum of 100 pounds. Pushing, pulling and lifting loads weighing a maximum weight of 100 pounds. A lift may begin at floor level or at an extended arm’s length reach above head level. Vision must be correctable sufficient to distinguish colors. Hearing must be adequate to clearly distinguish audio warning from up to twenty feet away.
