Summary:
The Transportation Van Driver is responsible for safely and promptly transporting clients to and from their doctor appointments, the grocery store, and other destinations authorized by the organization.
Schedule: 38.5 hours per week (Monday-Friday) / 8am-4pm or 8:30am-4:30pmÂ
Pay: $20-21.50/hour
Essential Duties:
The following lists out job functions that are essential to this role.
- Provides daily transportation services to clients within the county and surrounding counties in a safe and timely manner to meet client needs.
- Abides by all local, state, and national driving laws always, and practices defensive driving techniques. This also includes completing annual safety and defensive driving training.
- Schedules and maps out daily routes in advance and contacts clients to confirm pickup times, ensuring clients are communicated with and that routes are well-planned.
- Ensures the van and all vehicle equipment are in proper and safe working condition daily by adhering to the maintenance and safety checklists for safety and operational purposes.
- Maintains all required reports/logs including rider logs and maintenance checks daily.
- At the end of each day, cleans the van, completes the post-trip checklist, and fills up the gas tank to ensure the vehicle is safe, orderly, and ready for the following day.
- Inputs daily and monthly data into the database.
- Ensures that organizational vehicles are properly maintained and in safe working conditions, including coordinating transportation for scheduled maintenance.
- Collaborates and communicates with other team members daily regarding routes, client concerns, maintenance issues, etc. to support client needs.
- Supports other GoochlandCares programs weekly (Clothes Closet or Food Pantry for example) when schedule permits and directed by supervisor.
- Collaborates with the Development Department to collect stories and photos from clients, staff, and volunteers to promote the mission of the organization.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
The following represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- A valid Virginia driver's license is required.
- 1-3 years of experience driving/operating a large passenger van or large vehicle is required.
- Strong interpersonal skills to include professionalism and promptness in communicating with clients, staff, and volunteers, with a trauma-informed care approach.
- Strong organizational skills to plan out daily routes and keep clients informed at all times.
- Ability to pass an annual vision exam for safety reasons.
- Skilled and knowledgeable in operating all vehicle equipment to ensure a safe working environment, including safe and defensive driving techniques.
- Ability to identify self-limitations regarding skills and knowledge and willingness to seek assistance to ensure patient safety and optimize quality of care.
- Commitment to the mission of GoochlandCares.
- Ability to work with a variety of volunteers and in different types of care situations in sometimes unpredictable conditions and be able to build and maintain those relationships.
- Understand that all employees participate in engaging volunteers to help fulfill our mission.
Technical Skills:
- Basic computer skills required.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products is preferred.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:
- Prolonged periods of sitting in a vehicle.
- Prolonged periods of working with varying inclement outdoor weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
