Scoular has recently made an exciting investment in an owned asset to crush both soybeans and canola for use in the growing renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel markets.  We are looking for a Safety Manager to develop, implement and maintain a strong safety culture. Specifically, the position leads the health and safety process by developing and implementing health and safety programs that are aligned to the Company’s values and objectives. The position will engage with all levels in the organization to enhance existing programs in a manner of continuous improvement. The position will represent the Organization in interactions with external resources including regulatory officials and consultants. The position will provide technical expertise related to environmental compliance. This position will be responsible for assisting with performing compliance assessments and following up on corrective actions to ensure implementation and sustainability.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Partner with operations leadership to lead and implement continue improvement and focus of our safety culture which includes a proactive and preventative approach to Health & Safety, with a strong emphasis on incident prevention and compliance. Perform Health & Safety applicability determinations, compliance audits, and risk assessments to ensure effective and sustainable implementation of Regulatory and Company requirements.
  • Leads the administration, implementation and monitoring of safety and security policies, programs, and procedures. This includes developing and presenting training in both classroom and on-the-floor; mentoring and working with Supervisors to develop their EHS skills.
  • Leads the creating, coordinating and training topics and content for JSA development, safety meetings, safety training, and safety policies reviewed as part of New Hire Orientation and employees.
  • Oversee the Environmental Compliance program including monitoring and testing as required by permits. Investigate compliance excursions to make recommendations for improvements.
  • Partners with Engineering leadership with the implementation, maintaining, and auditing of the site’s Process Safety Management (PSM) program.
  • Responsible for ensuring required OSHA Injury and Illness record keeping and reporting requirements are met and maintained as appropriate and return to work programs are in line with ADA and Work Compensation laws. Assist with performing Incident Investigation.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science in Safety, Engineering or related field is required.
  • 5-8 Years of experience in safety in a multi-shift manufacturing experience. Previous supervisor/ manager experience highly desired.
  • Ability to travel – anticipate <15% travel.
  • Prior experience managing site emergency response team a plus.
  • Must show initiative and ability to perform in a fast-paced, ever-changing workplace.
  • Data collection and analytical skills to help with incident trends and data collection.
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
  • Manage return to work and incident investigations.
  • Experience managing Worker’s Compensation program
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Physical environment/working conditions:

  • Ability to withstand location specific outside climate. These conditions can include hot summer temperatures (90 – 120 degrees), cold winter temperatures (below freezing – subzero) and windy conditions (in excess of 40 MPH).
  • Must be able to climb tall ladders unassisted.
  • Vision corrected to 20/20.
  • Must be able to bend and reach in normal range of movement.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to remain standing on hard surfaces for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work in confined / tight spaces.
  • Must be able to wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e. hardhat, safety glasses, respirators, etc.)
