Company Overview

General Summary:

Responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the physical inventory program. Identifies gaps in processes and develops inventory related processes, documentation and training. Responsible for day-to-day management of third-party inventory service vendor and the Physical Inventory Services team.


Job Details

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Develops strategic physical inventory vision – process, communication to field and vendors, training (field), ensuring that inventories occur, and how to measure vendor and field performance. Identifies and advocates for projects that will provide an appropriate return on investment, reduce financial and operational risks, and/or improve departmental capabilities. 
  • Provides leadership on the current physical inventory processes and procedures to identify opportunities such as vendor performance concerns, region or district concerns, and communication results. May present and solicit support from others for changes (ex. store operations, internal audit, vendor partners). 
  • Manages physical inventory team to include hiring, coaching and development, and performance. Manages third party inventory service vendor(s) and adherence to contract. 
  • Provides financial expertise and support for the physical inventory services budget and forecasts. 
  • Develops and implements physical inventory training strategies that improve efficiency and effectiveness of physical inventory process while mitigating financial and shrink risk. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Ability to communicate (written and verbal) in common language to facilitate transfer of knowledge as well as proficiency presenting information to large groups
  • Basic understanding of accounting terms and concepts including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial controls
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire team members
  • Ability to work with others on a common goal while also ensuring that projects meet financial requirements; ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic and team-oriented environment
  • Ability to step into the details when necessary and assist in resolving issues
  • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to prioritize task
  • Basic understanding of retail operations, physical inventory processes and inventory controls
  • Intermediate or higher-level ability to utilize Microsoft Office word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database skills
 

Qualifications

Work Experience &/or Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or general business required.
  • Five or more years of experience with physical inventory plus two years data analysis.
  • Retail, inventory accounting, loss prevention and/or asset protection management experience preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Lawson GL, WebFocus and 1010data preferred.
