We are currently seeking a Controller for our Bicron facility in Torrington, CT. This role supports a single business unit and oversees key financial functions including close, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, and performance analysis. The Controller partners closely with site leadership to deliver accurate financial insights and support strategic decision-making. This position reports to the Regional Controller, with a dotted-line relationship to the Site Leader/General Manager.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on financial leader with strong technical accounting knowledge, operational finance experience, and a proven ability to lead teams in a fast-paced environment.
Details of the Role:Â The position of Controller will be responsible for planning, directing, and managing all aspects of financial operations for a single site. This role oversees month-end close, AP/AR, treasury, cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and analysis. During the course of a standard workday, you will partner closely with site leadership to deliver accurate financial insights, drive performance, ensure compliance, and support strategic decision-making.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Close & Reporting
- Lead and manage the monthly closing process in accordance with established timelines, including:Â
- Review and approval of journal entriesÂ
- Oversight of balance sheet reconciliationsÂ
- Analysis of period-over-period variancesÂ
- Year-end close, E&O review, and lease accounting adjustmentsÂ
- Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with U.S. GAAPÂ
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all financial reportingÂ
Budgeting, Forecasting & Performance Management
- Lead the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes in collaboration with department leadersÂ
- Monitor financial performance against budget and forecast, analyze variances, and recommend corrective actionsÂ
- Develop and maintain financial models and performance metrics to support operational and strategic goals, including material purchases and margin analysisÂ
Operational & Business Partnership
- Serve as the primary financial partner to the Site Leader/General Manager and operations teamÂ
- Collaborate with operations to establish labor and overhead rates and analyze cost variancesÂ
- Provide actionable recommendations to improve profitability, efficiency, and margin performanceÂ
- Support pricing strategies, capital investment decisions, and operational initiativesÂ
Controls, Compliance & Audit
- Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controlsÂ
- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, SOX requirements, and company policiesÂ
- Serve as the primary point of contact for auditors for the siteÂ
- Oversee annual physical inventory processes and reconciliationÂ
Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead, manage, and develop the site accounting teamÂ
- Establish clear performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching and feedbackÂ
- Support professional development and succession planning within the teamÂ
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaborationÂ
Strategic & Special Projects
- Provide financial analysis to support site-level strategic initiatives, capital projects, and system implementationsÂ
- Lead and participate in cross-functional projects as assignedÂ
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and efficiency gainsÂ
Provides Financial Support to Site Leadership
- Partner with the Site Leader/General Manager on a regular cadence to understand business developments, key customer activities, and operational challengesÂ
- Collaborate with Sales and Operations leaders to provide financial insights and recommendationsÂ
- Provide financial analysis and support for strategic decision-making, including capital expenditures and pricing strategiesÂ
- Assist in the preparation of monthly financial packages, quarterly reporting, and annual operating plans
- Assist with audits by providing required documentation and support.
Qualifying Attributes and Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or MBA preferredÂ
- Minimum of seven (7) years of general ledger and financial reporting experience, including at least two (2) years in a leadership roleÂ
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SOX compliance; IFRS knowledge a plusÂ
- Demonstrated experience in cost accounting, margin analysis, and operational financeÂ
- Strong understanding of internal controls, audit requirements, and regulatory complianceÂ
- Advanced proficiency with financial systems (ERP) and Microsoft Office; Hyperion experience a plusÂ
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing teamÂ
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insightsÂ
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skillsÂ
- High attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy, integrity, and complianceÂ
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing prioritiesÂ
