Job Description

Position Summary:

This position will support the Summit County Lead Project Forester.

Brief Work Unit Description Colorado State Forest Service | Colorado State University

Essential Job Duties:

  • Supporting the U.S. Forest Service Good Neighbor Authority (GNA) program in Summit and Eagle Counties.

  • Supporting CSFS projects with Summit County Government and Towns.

  • Assisting with timber cruising, boundary delineation, and marking using various GPS and GIS applications.

  • Assisting with assessment and treatment of insect and disease projects

  • Assisting in forest management planning

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires hiking and carrying field equipment for most hours of the workday

  • The employee should be able to work in adverse weather conditions, steep/rough terrain, and with minimal supervision

Supervision:

This position does not supervise

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date 

  • Pursuing or completed degree in forestry or related natural resources field 

  • Ability to operate 4-wheel drive vehicles in variable weather and road conditions

  • Experience (or willingness to learn how to) in timber cruising & marking  equipment, and perform strenuous outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions

  • Ability and willingness to work long hours with occasional evening and weekend duties (work based on a 40-hour work week)

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written

  • Familiarity with Western U.S. tree identification

  • Familiarity with forest insects and disease of Colorado

  • One season of natural resources field experience

  • Experience in the utilization of Microsoft Suite, ArcGIS Pro, Avenza, OnX, and/ or GPS

  • Ability to keep detailed, accurate, and precise record keeping of project management and daily work duties

EMPLOYMENT DATES: 

Mid-May 2026 through October 31, 2026 (start and end date subject to change); normal work schedule is 40 hours per week. 

Salary Range

$20.00 - $22.00
