Overview:

Engine Power Components manufactures the heart of the internal combustion engine—camshafts—for a worldwide customer base. We are seeking a 1st shift supervisor to join our production team. The Shift Supervisor is responsible for leading assigned manufacturing operations to achieve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost objectives. This position provides direct supervision of production employees, ensures compliance with company policies and quality requirements, develops team members, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to support operational excellence.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership and Employee Development

  • Lead assigned employees in accordance with company policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Onboard, train, coach, and develop employees.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing performance feedback.
  • Address attendance, conduct, and performance issues through coaching and disciplinary action as appropriate.
  • Maintain employee training records and skills matrices.
  • Support succession planning and employee development initiatives.
  • Promote employee engagement and maintain a positive work environment.

Safety

  • Foster a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct safety observations and participate in safety audits.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
  • Implement and monitor corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment and safe work practices.


Operations Management

  • Plan and coordinate daily production activities to meet customer requirements.
  • Allocate labor and resources to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.
  • Monitor production schedules and adjust priorities as needed.
  • Coordinate maintenance, quality, engineering, and material support activities.
  • Lead shift startup, shift change, and daily communication activities.
  • Ensure accurate production reporting and documentation.

 

Quality Management

  • Ensure compliance with all quality system requirements, including IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 standards.
  • Verify adherence to control plans, standardized work instructions, and process requirements.
  • Respond to quality concerns and initiate containment activities when necessary.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
  • Support audits, process reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead and support Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost performance.
  • Facilitate problem-solving activities using structured methodologies.
  • Participate in and lead Kaizen events and continuous improvement projects.
  • Monitor and improve operational performance metrics.

 

Performance Monitoring

  • Monitor and communicate departmental performance metrics, including:
  • Safety
  • Quality
  • Productivity
  • Scrap
  • Delivery
  • OEE
  • Attendance
  • Labor utilization
  • Develop and execute action plans to address performance gaps.

 

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Review and approve employee timekeeping records.
  • Manage employee scheduling, attendance, and leave requests.
  • Complete required reports, documentation, and recordkeeping activities.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

 

General

  • Demonstrate initiative and sound judgment in addressing operational issues.
  • Maintain workplace organization through 5S and visual management practices.
  • Serve as a professional role model for employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Desired Experience:

Education

  • Associate degree in Manufacturing, Business, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent manufacturing leadership experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.


Experience

  • 5-10 years of manufacturing experience.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of supervisory or leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Automotive manufacturing experience preferred

Knowledge and Skills

  • Leadership and employee development.

  • Root Cause Analysis and corrective action methodologies.
  • Production scheduling and workflow management.
  • Quality systems, including IATF 16949 and ISO 9001.

  • Ability to analyze production and performance data.

Salary Range:

  • Market-competitive salary; varies based on skills and experience.

Work Environment:

  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to moving machinery, noise, heat, and industrial equipment.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Regular attendance and onsite presence required.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment screening requirements.
