Job Summary

The Head Stocker is responsible for leading stocking operations within assigned areas of the store while ensuring shelves are fully stocked, merchandise is properly displayed, and inventory is accurately maintained. This position provides direction and support to stock clerks, promotes operational efficiency, and helps ensure a clean, organized, and customer-ready shopping environment. The Head Stocker works closely with store leadership to maintain product availability and achieve store performance goals.

Key Responsibilities

Stocking & Merchandising

  • Lead daily stocking and replenishment activities throughout assigned areas of the store.
  • Ensure shelves, displays, end caps, and promotional features are properly stocked and merchandised.
  • Verify merchandise is presented according to company standards and planograms.
  • Monitor product levels and address out-of-stock conditions promptly.
  • Ensure accurate pricing, signage, and product placement.

Inventory Management

  • Assist with receiving, unloading, and organizing merchandise deliveries.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate replenishment needs to management.
  • Ensure proper product rotation and storage procedures.
  • Help maintain accurate inventory through proper stocking practices.
  • Identify and report damaged, expired, or discontinued merchandise.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide guidance and support to stock clerks and department associates.
  • Assign daily tasks and monitor completion of assigned work.
  • Assist with training associates on stocking procedures, merchandising standards, and safety practices.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and productivity.
  • Support store leadership in maintaining performance expectations.

Customer Service

  • Deliver exceptional customer service and assist customers with product inquiries.
  • Help customers locate products and provide accurate information.
  • Address customer concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Promote a positive shopping experience throughout the store.

Store Standards

  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe sales floor and backroom areas.
  • Ensure aisles remain free of hazards and merchandise is properly displayed.
  • Support store-wide presentation and recovery standards.
  • Assist with seasonal sets, promotional displays, and special projects as assigned.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow and promote all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure safe handling of merchandise and equipment.
  • Report safety concerns, operational issues, and maintenance needs.
  • Support compliance with company operational standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous grocery, retail, stocking, or merchandising experience preferred.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift throughout scheduled shifts.
  • Frequently lift and carry merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to push, pull, and maneuver loaded carts, pallets, and stocking equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate material-handling equipment as required.
