Public Agency Resources (PARS), a subsidiary of Willdan Group Inc., is seeking a part-time Building Inspector to provide professional inspection services across the Grand Rapids, MI metropolitan area. This position covers residential and commercial inspections in building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical trades, with opportunities to support plan review and code compliance activities. You will help ensure construction projects meet all adopted codes and approved plans, deliver clear and consistent communication to contractors and municipal staff, and record inspection results in local permitting systems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform residential and commercial inspections across assigned disciplines (building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, energy, accessibility, etc.).
  • Review permits and approved plans; verify field conditions match submitted documents.
  • Document inspection results, issue correction notices, and schedule re-inspections as needed.
  • Record outcomes in municipal permitting platforms (e.g., BS&A). 
  • Communicate inspection requirements and results clearly to contractors, property owners, and municipal staff.
  • Provide responsive customer service and contribute to overall code compliance efforts.

Job Requirements / Qualifications

  • At least one current State of Michigan inspector registration (Building, Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical) required.
  • Candidates with an active ICC certification who are eligible for Michigan registration are also encouraged to apply.
  • Valid driver’s license required. 
  • Working knowledge of the Michigan Building, Residential, Electrical, Plumbing, and Mechanical Codes, plus Energy Code and local ordinances required.
  • Multiple registrations/certifications across inspection disciplines preferred.
  • 3–5+ years of municipal inspection or plan review experience preferred. 
  • Experience with BS&A or similar permitting/inspection systems preferred. 
  • Strong plan-reading, documentation, and customer service skills preferred. 

Schedule / Compensation 

  • Part-time / as-needed, primarily daytime hours with flexibility based on inspection demand.
  • $35–$45/hour depending on certifications and experience.
  • Mileage reimbursement available; billing is tied to permit-based inspections.
