Description

Position Summary:

The Production Assembler is an entry-level position responsible for the basic assembly of wire harnesses and cable assemblies. This position focuses on light assembly, wire splicing, heat shrinking, and labeling of wire assemblies by following standard work routines.

Essential Responsibilities:

Production:

  1. Develops the ability to comprehend and use standard production documentation including blue prints, work orders, wire lists and other written instructions in order to determine and identify materials needed and carry out sequence of assembly.
  2. Develops the ability to correctly identify colors and uses basic measuring devices like rulers and measuring tapes.
  3. Distinguishes different components of assembly and understands the routing of the product through the production process.

Processing wires and cables:

  1. Plugs individual wires into connectors ensuring proper connection to meet productivity and quality standards.
  2. Cuts and processes multi-conductor cable.
  3. Performs assembly of wires through routing.
  4. Operates cutters of various types to cut cable, wire, and wire covering.
  5. Splices wires with limited errors.
  6. Operates heat shrink hand tool to close tube around wire.
  7. Understands the proper orientation of connectors, including various positions.
  8. Understands the proper orientation of terminals within a connector.
  9. Understands proper labeling process.
  10. Operates a cable tie gun and develops the ability to troubleshoot minor problems.
  11. Sets up a continuity tester, tests finished product, and prints out the results sheets. 
  12. Bundles or bags product to the customer’s specifications.
  13. Packs finished assemblies for quality review.
  14. Adheres to safety standards when operating heat guns, strippers, cutters, and other hand tools.

Assembly inspection and time documentation:

  1. Visually inspects assemblies throughout the production process to ensure quality standards are met.
  2. Documents time per given project to adhere to projected budgets through electronic software.

Non-Essential Functions:

  1. Other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received:

Specific Direction: Follows established work procedures. Receives periodic checks for performance. Refers unique questions/conditions to immediate supervisor.

Requirements

  1. Current knowledge with/or ability to learn the IPC 620B Requirements and LEAN manufacturing principles.
  2. Ability to learn through verbal and written instruction and apply acquired training.
  3. Hand/eye coordination and dexterity.

  5. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.

  • Plant environment: Exposure to dust, seasonal colder temperatures in warehouse- more than 5 hours
