DEPARTMENT:      Diagnostic Imaging Department

JOB SUMMARY:    Works under the supervision of the Imaging Department Director.  Performs mammography procedures and all related duties.  Assures patient safety at all times.  Operates equipment accurately and efficiently applying the prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis.  Works the various shifts required to staff the department.   Provides guidance and instruction for radiologic technology students.  Assists with scheduling mammography appointments.

                                                                                                                                               

  1. JOB DUTIES:
  2.  Performs mammography procedures on patients of various ages, mental
  3. and physical abilities.
  4. Performs mammography procedures for all areas of organization; clinic, outpatient, inpatient areas, emergency room and operating room areas.
  5. Examines provider’s orders to assure proper tests are completed.
  6. Performs both diagnostic and screening mammograms.
  7. Assists radiologists with breast biopsy procedures.
  8. Instructs and prepares patient for procedure.
  9. Assures patient safety with the use of screening females of child bearing age for pregnancy and shielding
  10. Operates equipment accurately and efficiently using proper technical factors for radiological diagnosis.
  11. Performs quality control testing following protocols.
  12. Obtains and prepares images for reading by digitizing previous analog films and retrieving previous digital images on PACS
  13. Evaluates images for quality and technical clarity.
  14. Avoids repeating exposure to patient.
  15. Helps with other Imaging procedures when needed.
  16. Provides guidance and instruction for radiologic technology students.
  17. Assists with answering phones and scheduling Imaging appointments.
  18. Maintain all QC documentation
  19. Maintain and keep current the ACR, MDH and TJC manuals.
  20. Maintain MQSA documentation
  21. Check and correct procedures charges
  22. Maintain individual yearly competencies for the department
  23. Attend the system ultrasound practice council
  24. Other assigned duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. American Registry of Radiologic Technologist registered. (ARRT)
  2. ARRT Mammography certified or obtained post completion of competencies within 1 year.
  3.  Basic Life Support certified or obtain within 4 months.
  4.  Good computer skills.
  5.  Good interpersonal communication skills.
  6.  Demonstrated ability to follow and adhere to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital policies, vision, mission and values.
  7.  Maintains reliable and consistent attendance.
