Summary:Responsible for the design and development of new industrial pump products, components, and assemblies from conception to commercialization. This may include responsibilities for specification development, risk identification/mitigation and development of products using engineering principles that meet customer specifications as well as cost requirements. Effectively lead projects through engineering portion of new product development process to meet development timelines. Mentor and review work of more junior product design engineers and CAD designers. Solve design related problems on released product as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design products with sound engineering principles and mathematical modeling to meet technical and commercial requirements
- Perform risk analysis on new products. Plan and execute risk mitigation
- Provide technical assistance to engineers and other departments for new and existing designs
- Lead technical design reviews and DFMEA
- Support and participate in the design, test, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototypes. Rapid prototype experience a plus
- Issue technical instructions and engineering specifications
- Integrate new products/improvements into product configuration program to ensure BOMs are accurate and complete
- Perform customer visits in conjunction with Product Management to develop product specifications. Troubleshoot and resolve field issues for new products as needed.
- Assure technical accuracy of sales literature
- Manage development projects as a project manager through engineering development phase of new product development process. Create and maintain design documentation, and report on project status throughout process with limited supervision
- Develop and refine theoretical design calculations supported by empirical data as required
- Coach and review the work of Product Development Engineers and CAD designers
- Obtain and support approvals as required with respect to legal obligations and certifying agencies in support of Compliance Manager
- Collaborate with suppliers to clarify design intent and provide technical feedback to ensure components meet design requirements and manufacturability
- Be familiar with applicable product regulations and manage impact to new or existing designs
Education and/or Experience :Bachelor's degree (BS Mechanical Engineering) from four-year ABET accredited college or university; and 5 + years operating as a design engineer in a manufacturing company. Rotating equipment and hydraulic design experience a plus. FEA and CFD experience a plus.
Language Skills : Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills : Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability : Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills : Computer design (3D modeling and assembly), Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics a plus
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations : PE licence a plus
