Description:

Essential Functions

  • Assists in planning program growth within the device clinic and facilitates regional connections with the Trinity Health Cardiology team throughout West Michigan.

  • Performs interrogation, interpretation, and/or reprogramming of pacemakers, ICDs, biventricular pacemakers, CRT devices, and implantable loop recorders with minimal physician supervision.

  • Troubleshoots critical device issues and takes immediate steps toward resolution.

  • Collaborates with physicians regarding device status and accurately documents device analyses in the EMR and associated software systems.

  • Educates patients and their families regarding device function, expectations, remote monitoring, and follow‑up protocols.

  • Completes accurate device reports for physician interpretation, including documentation and billing data.

  • Oversees the Device Clinic appointment schedule, ensuring timely patient access and appropriate provider coverage.

  • Assists electrophysiology physicians and staff in delivering patient teaching.

  • Collaborates with clerical and medical assistant colleagues in the device clinic; provides orientation to new staff and evaluates competency at least annually.

  • Travels to regional offices for assigned device clinics, as required.

  • Serves as a resource to physicians and other practice colleagues regarding device patients and services.

  • Ensures equipment remains in good working condition and promptly reports any issues or safety concerns.

  • Ensures programming rooms are properly stocked with necessary supplies.

  • Demonstrates working knowledge of Holter Monitor application; instructs patients on proper use, event recording, and device return.

  • Oversees software and performs interactive Holter scanning and data archiving.

  • Recognizes arrhythmia events and prepares Holter reports for physician interpretation.

  • Assists in developing, reviewing, and revising Device Clinic policies, procedures, and forms.

  • Leads the installation, configuration, and maintenance of appropriate software systems, including master data entry, data retrieval, reporting, and system upgrades (hardware and software).

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Certifications

Required:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire

  • Associate degree in a related field

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

  • License - Certified Cardiac Device Specialist

Experience

Preferred:

  • Minimum of 2 years of training with pacemaker, ICD, and loop recorder technology
    OR minimum of 6 months device clinic experience plus 12 months supervised training with vendor representatives (Biotronik, Boston Scientific, ELA, Medtronic, St. Jude, etc.)

  • Completion of a recognized cardiac device technology certification program

  • Experience with remote device transmission platforms (Biotronik, CareLink, Latitude, Merlin)

  • Ongoing continuing education in cardiac device advancements

  • Minimum of 3 years cardiology experience in a clinic, hospital, or cardiac device industry setting

  • Extensive knowledge of implantable pacemakers, ICDs, CRT devices, and loop recorders
